Need history lesson
I am using GWX 2.1,and was wondering about a radio message,a sub is requesting an escort into base,I was just wondering why they did this,or did this really happen??
Just curious...Thanks:up: |
Normaly, mine escorts to guide the u-boat through the cleared paths.

Also for extra anti-aircraft protection. In the full-length 5-hour version of Das Boot, in the first shot of U-96 at sea the over-voice narration by Lt. Werner says "We have left the escorts behind."
More to the point, here is a shot from the 1941 German movie U-boote Westvarts, showing the real u-boat used in the movie alongside a real escort vessel. Sorry it's so small. I tried resizing it but it wouldn't take for some reason. http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a3...4-20-07-40.jpg |
They needed the escorts to guide them through their own mine fields and anti sub nets, as well as to make sure the path was clear of any mines the British might have dropped off overnight. And as Sailor Steve said, extra anti-aircraft protection.

Thanks fellas,wasn't sure what is was...Thank you:up:

Shore will be nice
I think theat shore will bee nice too see in sh3. I now theat probably immposobole but shore would bee a nice addon. Thean agein in the beginig nothing was possibole and thean look what good man deed. Theay make the sh3 bee whte is it today. There is allways a hope theat we will resive a escort whaen returning from patrol.

Generally if a boat was seriously damaged and had wounded aboard they would be met and a doctor transferred as well as giving additional AA help.
Sometimes planes would also fly a CAP in support too. |

I never follow the escorts... I just look at the minefield and sub net map and keep a good distance from them when leaving port.

I always follow the escorts. I just think it's cool to do so.:sunny:

Unfortunately it's probably beyond my modding abilities, but if someone would care to point me in the right direction re. which files etc, I'm willing to explore the idea. |
