Setting the record straight.

The thread I started inquiring if SH3 needed the DVD Disc is closed. I feel this is because someone thought I was asking for an illegal copy or workaround. I was not. I have bought all my games including SH ! and its expansions, SH2 (someone owes me for that :D ), SH3, and SH4.

When I installed SH4, I found that it doesn't need the DVD disc. I didn't have any third party software. I thought it works like Half-Life 2 where it checks on the internet of your registered copy and just starts up. Since SH3 looks similar in its start up operation I thought perhaps it would do the same. I tend to switch back and forth between the games.

Thank you. I felt the need to stand up for my ship's reputation.

No harm done JackhammerJohn to your rep. Sorry if that was implied by closing the thread. It's just that the thread you started most always leads to talks of cracks and the sort. One post in was all it took for yours. There is no other way around the situation but to close the thread as there is no legal patch.

With the digital version of SH3 obviously the DVD-CD is not required, however for other versions they are.

My understanding is that version of SH III released on DVD in 2007, already patched to 1.4b, does not contain StarForce and does not need the DVD in the tray.

I have heard that as well ( from another member here ), but did a little research ( checked the UBI Forums, etc. ) and could not come across anything. If that is the case it would be really helpful if somebody could point us to a reputable link
regarding this :yep:

Bought my copy of SHIII from Amazon-u.k. Doesn't need the dvd in the drive. As far as I can see it is a factory sealed licenced copy.

Absolutely correct HW3. Have recently obtained a copy of the Focus Multimedia version ( barcode 5031366016324 ) and confirm that it is fully patched to 1.4b, contains no SF, and plays with no disc in drive.

This is currently available from Amazon UK, Play.com and Game costing between Pds Stg 8 -10.

Additionally, as reported elsewhere in these forums, it has appeared in Retail outllets such as Morrisons and Woolworth.

Edit

@RDP

Don't know whether this link will help:-

http://www.focusmm.co.uk/shop/Silent...II-pr-578.html

If you check out vid credits, you will see that it says this version is licensed to Focus (which is also printed on the DVD label).

He, he, look at me having the SUBSIM brain-fart of the day :doh:
Oh well, just makes our jobs a little more difficult with the illegal copies that
are out there.

Thanks for input here.

Bit late coming in on this RDP but I can confirm I have a legit copy that does not require the disc be inserted after first initial installation.

Believe it or not, it's the bargain bin discs that have this facility and IIRC have been around retail outlets (in the UK) since autumn last year http://www.psionguild.org/forums/ima...s/thumbsup.gif

Thanks Jim.

Anybody know if UBI officially released anything for earlier releases of SH3.

By pure coincidence I asked a Ubi contact this yesterday...just waiting for his response.

Excellent, lets hope he does not take to long :)

The mods from the UBI SH III forum have asked UBI for some kind of guidance on this matter but, have recieved no answer from them last I read about it.

As far as I'm aware, no.....It would appear other distribution labels have took it upon themselves to release the versions they have.

One thing that puzzles me though is the fact that surely Ubi were informed prior to said action lest the distributor run the risk of possible copyright infringement.

I suspect Ubi turnrd a blind eye once they parted company with SF.

My guess would be UBI licenced them to release the updated version, and then were through with SH III, figuring there was no more money to made with it.

Just to add a little more confuseion to the soup.

I have bought 3 SH-3 from GameStop/ EB Games.

And all 3 have the same Keycode. And they were bought at different times.

I've always wondered why.
