Just want to make sure this is clear
Below is a link to the Yamato WIP it's a ongoing debate about the use and making of surface ship, that I think everyone should read, you may want to start at page one but this link will take you to page 2

I think the most important thing to gather from there and other recent threads is that it is very inappropiate to make requests for your pet ship of the moment. Obviously, a modder is going to be directed first and foremost by their own interests. If they wanted to make their decisions on how they spend their time based on community popularity, I'm sure they would start a thread or a poll.
No more [REQ] for surface ships. Either do it yourself or wait and see what the current producers decide to work on next. I suspect it is these threads that are generating some angst and fueling negative discussions. It would probably make more sense to focus energy on overcoming some of the huge barriers to surface ship gameplay in SH4 (which may be insurmountable and therefore a big disincentive to indulging requests), rather than on seeing how many new ships can fit into the "garage." |
I agree with that sentiment. While not much of a modder myself, I get tired of seeing them flooded with requests like "can any of you modders out there make this for me?" Occasionally some modder will actually ask "I'm at a loss for what to do next. Would you rather see this or that?" But those times are rare.
Another favorite peeve is "When will it be done?":dead: |
If enough people want something, one of them will have the skill to do it (at least), and others will use it as an excuse to learn how.
If people don't want it... or none that have the skills, then I guess you have to do it yourself or be SOL. tater |

I for one have been following these threads since good ole Xantrakoles decided to release the first Fubuki (*pats Fubuki - don't worry girl, daddy will be back to play with you after I'm fed up of playing with your bigger sister - Scheer") and eagerly await any ship release.
All I can do for the moment is play a supporting role, with a few supporting comments or issues to help out the guys developing the mods as I don't have the time or intellect to figure out this modding business. Thats probably what the rest of us should do. Just support, thank, download and play. |
you can request, but i think it's really up to the modder, don't pound it into heads...

Totally agree with John's post. Similarly, when Nauticalwolf posted his thread about fixing the Pearl Harbor buildings, people started bombarding him with "can you do this port and that one, and then this, and then that?" FFS people, let them do their work with burying them with your personal requests.

I think players posting what they'd like shows that there's interest in what you're doing - just ignore it and concentrate on what you're doing - at the end of the day, its not for you - its for the community (ie. those users who are putting forward requests). because if it wasn't, why would you release it in the first place? note: this is not meant to be a flame or anything - i have much respect for guys who take the time to learn the inner workings of this awesome game to produce something which I've been eagerly awaiting for years. This is just to put the argument into perspective. Rock on!! |
Carry overs from another thread.
Moved this over from the Yamato thread so we would not Hi-jack that one any longer per Nesgeis's very correct assertion:up:

And with all this being said...I'm done, I will reiterate, all I wanted to point out is that, I didn't think it was right to be sarcastic or minimize others... I don't think it is to much to ask.
and if you don't like what you are doing then stop. this community is better than that and I think that intergrity needs to be maintained. that is about as short and to the point as I can get. at this point no matter what is said I will have no response to it. |
