P Class' Sonar
 

hey all, havent posted in a while..

While playing a career in a US P class submarine, i noticed that as i dive to PD, my sonar doesnt work, iv got to manually click depth to 60 feet o be able to hear anything on sonar and see through the periscope (albeit in VERY calm seas).

Any reasons/suggestions on why this is/how to fix it.

Also, one mor eproblem. I had a crash on my computer and SH4 wouldnt work, so i re installed it, however now when i try to load 1.3/1.4, etc i cant. Im also missing some file folders in my computers directory that used to have SH4 data. Because of this I've been playing v1.2.. its so frustrating seeing the big advances here on the forums and seeing how short my version measures up.. how can i fix this installation issue..

(P.S I read the reinstall sticky and didnt undertand anything.. im not much of a computer whizz)

It's a known 'feature' that the sonar doesn't work until you go slightly deeper than periscope depth, so that's working normally. Yes, it's difficult to see through the periscope when playing without the stabilizing option. What I do in this case is to click on a slightly higher depth than periscope depth, so that the periscope is elevated above the choppy seas.

You said that you re-installed SH4, but did you uninstall it, or just install over the top of the existing install? The best thing to do is to uninstall SH4 by going to START.....CONTROL PANEL......ADD/REMOVE PROGRAMS.....SILENT HUNTER 4. Then you can do to MY DOCUMENTS on your desktop and delete the SH4 folder from there.

I think at this point you can go ahead and re-install SH4 using your original disks. Then you can apply the 1.4 patch and you should be good to go.

Aye sir, but in a Balao, Gato, etc (all other submarines) when i go to PD i can use both periscope and sonar normally, i havent got to fool around with ordering minor depth changes.

This is exactly what i did, Control Panel -> Uninstall Programs -> Uninstall all programs linked to it,

After, i installed it again, however, i can only upload to 1.2 and not 1.3 and beyond?? any solutions?

So yea, any ideas on how i can install the game properly??

I believe the P class has a shallower periscope depth than the others.
