Anti-aircraft barrage balloon
During WWII was employed, specially from Allied side, AA defence balloons. I should like have it in SHIII. Place a barrage of balloons near port to give a realistic touch in game.
I don't know if already made it by anyone; I think might be interesting add on. Kind Regards everybody. |
They are in most German harbors in the GWX mod... especially around big ships like the Graf Zeppelin...

I never understand the purpose of those baloons. Ok it said anti-air craft balloon but, how would a plane "would tackle it" if the pilot sees something big in front of him?
|
They kept planes from flying in low to bomb the harbors/ships. They made them fly higher which would hopefully reduce their accuracy, and give the AA gunners a better target to shoot at. The idea was that if a plane did come in low, he would catch a wing on the balloon cable and crash. There were also cables strung between balloons with cables hanging down, almost net like, that made it all but impossible to fly in low.
|
Yes to that last part. The balloons themselves weren't the danger, it was all the dangly stuff strung between them. It didn't keep planes from bombing, but fighter-bombers didn't have bombsights, and the higher they were forced to do it from the worse their aim was. Also it pretty much eliminated fighters strafing the guys under all those cables.

Never saw many planes complete a bombing or strafing run with one wing

the bombing method during WWII wasn't the same as today the attacks were often i don't the english world "en piquet" french like this
http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b264/jpm1/stuka.jpg yes different addons exist as standalone , as ship cargo and even on dry docks search main supermods GWX 2.1 , WAC 2 etc .. |
I know they are in GWX
:hmm: Are they in WAC Interested to find out I think the words you are looking for JPM are dive bombing |
I wouldn't mind if the Barrage Balloons were used in others mods.
As long as they are credited to the GWX Team I'm fine with it. :yep: |
