DD running out of DC's?

After several hours of evading a pair of DD's in Gibraltor I noticed one finally went away and parked itself against the shoreline. Noticed the DC racks were gone:

Do DD's actually run out of charges like they're supposed to, or did this one set the charge to shallow and blow up his stern?

I'm pretty sure they do run out.
I got caught on the surface north of Scotland one day, a DD came right at me out of the fog.

So I ordered crash dive and tried to evade.
It took a while but, after ca. 80 DC's he stopped dropping them on me.
He continued the search for several hours but around midnight lost contact (or gave up).

I think a better question would be: "does anybody know how many DC's are carried by the respective DD's and other escorts?"

bookworm_020 05-05-08 12:11 AM

This has been gone over in other threads. Early war escorts had fewer depth charges compared to later ships, one late war destroyer had storage for 200 depth charges!:o

There are limits on how many each ship can drop before they run out, but when you have 3 or 4 ships after you it does pay to stick around and count.

BTW the picture that has been posted looks like the ship has blown off it's dethcharge racks. I wouldn't complain, just get the heck out of there!:yep:

Yes they do run out of DC´s. But the DC Racks are gone because they were destroyed. If they are out of ammo, the Racks will stay and you can still see DCs on it.

Hmm, i don't think that the rack was destroyed i think it's a bug.

Back in GWX 1.03 i had a Black Swan chasing me in really shallow water. At it's first run it even scratched my turret while i was drawing a line into the sea floor.

But it didn't drop a single can, so i went to external view and saw that it had no DC rack. The weird thing is, after running over me again and again for about 4-5 hours (game time), it suddenly got it's rack back and blowed my nice little VIIB to pieces.

Had one run out of DC last night
I was in shallow water so lucky most of his missed

They still make attack runs as if they have them though

That must have been what happend to me.
He seemed to run out after he dropped about 80 DC's, but continued his runs.

Rather annoying realy, you pretty much know he's out but you cant surface and get the heck out of there. Is this some kind of glitch?

(Those darned DD's just wont give you a break will they? :) )

bigboywooly 05-05-08 08:00 AM

Tis hard coded behaviour
No you cant surface but does give a chance to go to deeper water
Provided he doesnt call his mates in

If help is close at hand and assistance arrives, you'll soon understand the rationale for his dummy runs http://www.psionguild.org/forums/ima...ies/pirate.gif

I think destroyers carry 200 DCs and corvettes 150. In a convoy situation that's a lot of DCs before they run out. I followed a couple of Freetown convoys and they never ran out of cans. :damn:

In game each thrower has between 20 and 40 IIRC....so your pretty close to the mark....depending on the number of racks/throwers http://www.psionguild.org/forums/ima...ies/pirate.gif

Hehe that can be a real buzz kill/show stopper when the things use their radio's. Funny thing happened on one patrol had a DD doing runs above me as if he had DC (moron blew up his own racks, was in shallow water) and the reinforcements on the sonar looked scary, 4 warships all closing on my position. Once they got within periscope sight they ended up being the torpedo boats, laughed endlessly on that one. That slip up must've cost some Brit commander his command or got a really nasty transfer :rotfl:

stupid question?

No doubt a monumentally stupid question (will fully accept any following ridicule with due humility), but, what does IIRC stand for?
