What happened ?

Dammit! I was just passing by Helogoland island at night on surface to my patrol grid AN29 on 256 TC when suddenly my boat was destroyed by flooding. It just happened too fast I was unable to react at all! :damn: Did I struck a mine ???

SH3 commander says nothing usefull too

Summary
Oberleutnant z. S. and U-52 were lost sometime on 12MAY40.

Well that's a difficult one!
:hmm:
What year was it?
Either you were sunk by plane (and your watch didn't see it!), you collided, a mine, or got hit critically somhow; All we can do is guess.

High TC is a bitcht!
I once struck a mine near the British east coast and since i was running high TC my Boot sunk like a stone.
And it was over before i understood what was going on!

Well better luck next time Herr Kaleun!:hmm:

Most probably some nasty mine was laying beneath :( I reject the probability of the plane since the year was 1940 May, there were still none planes equiped with radars or leigh lamps.
I just don't understand why TC never dropped to 1 when collission with ?mine? happened :\

Can somebody confirm mines beying laid East/SouthEast of Heligoland island ?

Nippelspanner 05-04-08 03:15 AM

There are only two possabilities for me...

1. Struck a mine (Dont know if there are any...)
2. Run aground in shallow waters during a fast cruise

This one is droping out too. Distance from island was no less then 30 km away. Made lots of patrols through that area never had troubles

If you are playing GWX, there is a nice draggable document with the layout of mine fields near axis bases :p

That is correct and well known mister :know: The problem is there is NO friendly minefields showned in that area!

Just another U-boat that vanished, no radio message, nothing, gone, never to be seen or heard from again, welcome to the U-boat war my friend.

Very funny :D
No, seriously, how come ? U-boats don;t dissapear like that, they were sunk by enemy or by hiting mines. I just want to know what happened to my boat :shifty: BDU not always knew what has happend to u-boat on patrol. But always did captains I believe

By the way, this is my last patrol log: 1111MAY40 - 12MAY40 (2 days)0 (0/0)0 (0/0)U-boat damaged (H.I. 84.51%)
Hull was still strong, but I was sunk by flooding, so why a hell TC never droped to 1 if let's say I have hit the mine huh ? :nope:

I can feel it's really getting personal when the truth is somewhere out there :D

More than likely a mine
The British mined often around German waters esp where they thought the uboats were running to\from patrol

If you were SSE of Helgoland or there abouts is a distinct probability

Yep, now it's getting wormer, I do remember coming radio messages warning about minelaying activity of British navy (english channel; east and north cost) and Kriegsmarine minelaying operations laying mines around Thames or so..

But I think I received a message much later that some areas around Heligoland was already cleared by Kriegsmarine ?

And how about TC ? I looked over it is set to 1 when criticall hit. I am sure I would have been able to save my boat anyway :(

GoldenRivet 05-04-08 05:31 AM

it was a mine... i had this happen to me frequently in one spot near lerwick in previous versions at high time compression.

to figure out what happened i enabled external view, reloaded my game... went to the place where i died and sure enough the area was infested with mines.

thats the cause of your problem... it WAS a mine.
