Not really. It's impossible to do anymore. There is no front line. If they strictly enforced it there wouldn't be any females in either theater. Times have changed. That rule has been around a lot longer than 92 though. The real deal is they didn't want a female silver star winner to risk getting wounded or killed. That would be bad publicity.

Thought that way myself. Killing a known silver star medallist would be a PR stunt for the Taleban, but trying to kill a female silver star medallist probably would be a somewhat mandatory like they also said they would try to pick and kill Prince Harry. fenales wearing uniforms and weapons and fightign and being allowed to kill males pretty much is still a provocation in certain parts of the patriarchalic tribal world. If you really want to demoralise the enemy - send an all-female batallion against them and make sure the girls will win! :D
