[REL] Pacific Environment 3.1 patch released:

Hi all,

Here is the feature list:
  • german u-boats added to the roll pitch and caustics mod.
  • submarines reflection bug fixed so now you will see the texture of the submarine and conning tower reflecting in the water for at longer distance, I still need to work on the ships before the change allso affects all other ship, expect an update soon.
  • Edited the reflections and ocean colours so that they have a much more natural look, with the colours of the reflctions matching the sky better and time of day.
  • Edited the sky slightly to match the above.
  • The bug with the debris mod so that you never see any lifeboats is now corrected, thanks to Rubini.
  • Bug corrected where the foam looked yellow like beer when cloudy.

Installation:

1.Copy all the folders to your MODS folder besides your main SH4 directory, use JSGME to install (google it if you don't allready have it) and say yes to overwrite files.

2.Install all the mods say yes to overwriteany previous files, but only install ONE of the debris mods, choose between bodies on the water when a ship is sinking or no bodies.

Kriller 2,

Don't you ever rest? PLEASE don't..

Another step towards realism.........

CaptainNemo 05-01-08 02:14 PM

Is it just a patch and when yes which exact version do I need first?

Or is it a mod for itself?

kriller2 05-01-08 02:30 PM

Hi Captain,
It's a patch / new version for PE3, you need to install PE3 before installing this version, which can be found here:
Pacific Environments 3

BTW remember to read the readme about the installation carefully so you install it right ;)

Thx!

I have downloaded PE 3, but before I install it I was wondering...I already have TMO and ROW. Does PE 3 add to these mods, or do they include pretty much what is in PE3? Thanks.

ROW = PE

Side note for Kriller

Kriller you mentioned in your read me,
"if you think the sub is sitting up too high then use the dive rate mod it will lower the sub but reduce roll pitch effects"

...now i have seen your stock setting with PE3 and I did change to the dive rate option... BUT, fact is i think you nailed it with where you 'placed' the sub int he water.

it looks high when viewing externally but when you look at this picture of the USS Pampanito youve nailed it. Look carefully at the distance between the bottom of the dive planes and the water line, as well as amount of freeboard showing on the side of the hull.

in fact i think i may have just talked myself into switching back to your PE3 without dive rate option....

your setting may look unnatural to some initially but by looking at these photos it seems spot on realistic....

Any chance for an alternative download site?

I'm not sure abt this, but isn't the displayed Pampanito a museum vessel, ie. stripped from all war time gear, fuel, weaponry & what have you, which makes it much lighter, thus sitting so high uo in the water, whereas wartime subs had a heavy loadout, making them laying much deeper in the water?:hmm::hmm: Ie. like with diverate activated.

Agreed, not a boat fitted out for combat patrol. Hence she rides high on the water.

Here is USS Trigger;

Just browse around

http://www.navhttp://www.navsource.org/archives/08/04idx.htmsource.org/archives/08/04idx.htm

and you'll get an idea how the subs sat.

Pampanito is definitely higher than the period photos.

The youtube clips of the Silent Service documentary are awesome for viewing subs at sea.

Check here... 2 minutes in, you have an excellent view of the way the subs ride in the water. Specifically 1:50 to 2:10.

(the link was posted elsewhere, I forget by who... but he should get full credit)
