graphics card recommendations

Hi.
I have a ATI X1300Pro and i was looking to upgrade it,cause performance is rubbish in SH4.
Any recommendations for a good card thats cheaper than £100,i have crossfire as well:ping:

I don't know the UK rates on computer components, so this will probably go over your £100 limit, but I'd recommend an nVidia 8800GT. In terms of performance/cost ratio, it's as good as you can get right now. It costs less than the 8800GTS and gives nearly as good performance as the 8800GTX. I haven't had an ATI card since my 9800 Pro, so I don't know their equivalents currently.

As Quillan stated, I'm not sure on the cost in the UK but the Nvidia 7950GT is a great card for the money. Yes the 8800 is a better card but your price range might exclude that.

If you're going to go the 7900 Series root, you're better off getting a 7900GTX. not much more expensive if you look around and it's faster than the 7950GT.

Question: what is rubbish in frames per second? An nVidia 7600 GT will get you 20-35 fps and can be had in your price range. Anything above that will do even better.

the 9600GT is about 50 bucks cheaper than the 8800, though in some tests its not as good, there are others that actually say its better, even though I have the card I think the 8800 is a better card.. What does that mean? nothing, I play Crysis maxed out graphics and its still smooth as hell

I am using an ATI X1650 Pro which i purchased for around £75.00, and works ok with both SH3 And SH4

I think the ATI HD2600Pro looks good price wise and most of the review say its a good card and only £41:up:

I have just switched to Nvidia, but Im disappointed with the quality of the graphics.
My old ATI looked much better

I'm using two 7600GT cards in SLI and with volumetric fog turned off, I get about 40 fps on the bridge looking forward. Fog is about the only thing that kills my performance - other than ports.

I'm using a 8600GT 256MB approx £70 in both SH3, SH4 which renders 80 - 90 FPS internal views and which drops to around 30 - 40 FPS when I'm surrounded by exploding ships etc

Patience whilst loading game/mission is a required skill :D

What's a good upgrade from a 7900GS

Have a 7900GS that gets me 20-30 fps outside with 2xAA on SH4. Is it worth it upping to 8800 since I'm seeing some cards for around a $100?

claybirdd 04-22-08 04:35 PM

I have an HD2600 and it works great for me:up: the only loss of FPS I get is when I play U-boatmission. Dont know why but it tries to kill my FPS.

You're seeing 8800GTs for $100?????? I am BLIND or...... I have a 7900GS and I love it. I'm getting about another 20 fps out of it, so maybe your processor is holding you back. If so, you'll be a bit disappointed at the increase in speed with a new card. You can see above that the 8600GT is so much the same speed as the 7900GS you couldn't separate them without counting the remnants of your wallet.

Personally, I'm happy as a clam with the 7900GS once I get it troubleshot and probably replaced by EVGA. It heats up and shuts down my whole machine. Right now I'm using my backup 7600GT. It still runs fine!

But you know, a $100 8800GT would be so tempting that I don't know if I could resist.
