Loch Ewe Map
Nov. 39 and planning on raiding Loch Ewe with my Type VII.
Cannot find any maps of the mines/nets around Loch Ewe anymore. Can someone link me to one please...Loch Ewe specifically, but all Allied harbors if available. Many thanks in advance! Chuck |
Use the SH3 Mission Editor. If you want information that they really couldn't have, then you might as well see exactly where everything is. The SCR (Scripted Layer) will tell you what you want to know.

Don't want to know where everything is just a map of Loch Ewe, I had it before my PC crashed some time ago.
Oh well its real early (3rd mission) so I'll raid it blind and hopefully won't hit a mine! LOL Chuck |
I just got in the '40s, and raided several harbors, but I haven't seen any mines or anti-sub netting, I think you're good to go!
|
LOL, you've been lucky then.
Not ALL are protected though but I know from experience Loch Ewe is. Chuck |
nah i did it in gwx 2.0 in earl '40 and there were no anti sub defences at all.
|
You need a spy in loch ewe :hmm:
In reality, scapa was the only raid by a u-Boat, and gunter prien was lucky to survive and not be caught or run aground in shallow waters. |
Aside from the 4 DD's that are usually patrolling the eastern approach there is a indeed a minefield and some nasty subnets there. To the southeast is also heavily mined, makes getting into Liverpool a real pain.

Check out this thread for advice on harbour raids:

You can find a map of Loch Ewe here that shows the actual geography of the loch, and the anti-submarine emplacements used in WWII.

Made it in and out safely, stayed in there for a couple of days!
One floating dock, one tanker, one medium cargo amongst several other vessels including one destroyer. The BB I was looking for was not there however! Still nice tonnage though. Chuck |
First off, Hi.
I have SH3 with Seawolves: Submarines on Hunt, some sound mods, and SH3 Commander installed. Now, I've only ever entered one enemy port, and that was Bristol. I didn't encounter any kind of sub defences, no sub-nets, no mines. Now is that because they are only in mods like GWX, or am I just dumb and totally missed them? Now, before you guys start telling me to download GWX, here's a little system information. I'm playing on a laptop with Pentium M processor at 1.73ghz, 1gb of ram, a crappy Intel 915M built-in video card. I can play SH3 but I've got everything turned down, and I can't do any external views and I can only look through the uzo/periscope when it's zoomed all the way in. Would installing GWX make my game run slower? And the reason I'm not playing on my desktop, which could run SH3, is because I don't know how to transfer my save file over without installing all the mods that I have, which i've forgotten what they actually are. Sorry that this isn't making much sense, my brain is a little disorganised right now. Anyway, back to the reason for my post. In the original un-modded game(except a few minor ones), are there any sub defenses in the ports? And if so, what can I do to detect them and/or avoid them? Are there maps somewhere that say where they all are, or am I stuck on my own? Again, sorry this is long and not making much sense. |
WELCOME ABOARD!:sunny:
Playing with one of the supermods is the only way you're going to get a realistic experience out of a harbor raid, and even then you should be at 100% to make it like the real thing. I know you said "don't say that", but I don't know what else to say. As far as I know, the stock game has no defenses. The 1.4 patch provides some traffic, if I remember correctly, but it has been quite awhile since I've played that close to the original, so my memory is probably pretty faulty at this point. |
Do you think my computer has what it takes to run GWX? And where can I get it?
|
Your specs are minimal, and UBI claims SH3 isn't supported for laptops anyway. And given that old saves won't work with something like GWX anyway, I'd keep playing the way your are on the laptop AND install SH3 and GWX on the desktop, and see which one eventually wins out.
As for getting it, there are plenty of links on the SH3 Mods Workshop forum, but here's a direct link anyway: http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=135224 Also, if you're not already using it, SH3 Commander is the very best thing you can do to enhance the experience. It lets you adjust anything and everything at the click of a switch, provides over a billion possible crew names and gives a name to every ship you sink! http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=135380 Next, there are several new environmental mods which drastically improve the way everything looks, but I won't overburden you until you're sure you're ready. Lastly, if you have any questions, just ask. There are many old hands here who are just drooling at the possibility of helping anyone who comes along get set up in the best way possible. |
