Ship without a flag

Is it normal that I spotted a ship without a flag that was not a sampan? (It was a small split freighter). It showed up green on the map, so I didn't engage him (obviously have have map contact updates enabled). It was also armed, the freighter, so to test it I sailed about 1000 yards on his starboard, surfaced, and he didn't engage me.

I'm running RSRDC v350 (for stock 1.4). It is early in the war, December 11th 1941.

Thanks!

Also, all the sampans don't have flags, which I presume is normal. Since they show up green on the map and it is so early in the war, I didn't engage them (these poor fishermen probably don't even know that we're at war yet!!).

The only sampans that I engage are off of Japan. They will turn tail and run the second that they spot you. Neutral sampans will keep on their course, even if you are sending them to the bottom.

I don't think that I've run into an armed merchant without a flag, yet. Sometimes they hang the flag off of the fan tail, but I'm guessing that you had plenty of time to view the ship from different angles.

I don't think I ever saw a Merchant not flying a flag, If I can't indentify the target I usually just torpedo it and hope nobody noticed

Yes. Not only was I sailing very close to it, but I also have external views on. So though most of the time I do not use it to go identify ships, this time I thought it was weird so I used the external camera to go look... I should have taken a screenshot. Newbie mistake! If it happens again, I will take a screenshot.

Or maybe they are aware and reporting your position. Usually if I spot one or more I'll change course to avoid them before I am sighted (hopefully my lookouts are better). For 'effect' I patrol using high-scope even though it doesn't matter in the game... that, and a few other things are another topic. lol

I know our orders are to conduct "unrestricted submarine Warfare" but I'd sure hate to sink a small trawler from the Netherlands by mistake without at least firing a warning shot.

Strange he wasn't flying his colors... so far I've never seen that.

Or maybey its a new ploy by the AI. They have learned that you wont shoot the sampans that arent flying a flag, no matter what :know:

Raptor1 04-17-08 03:20 PM

The AI probably thinks you won't shoot a Kongo if it's not flying a flag either...

Yeah thats kinda funny because I just saw a Kongo without an IJN flag....It was red on the map so I killed it and it said enemy ship sunk.I know I play with God's Eye view on but its only cause I want to kill something every now and then.:D

This is “NOT” a bug, but is “as designed”, these vessels are “neutrals” and within the game structures have a flag code of “Environmental”, that is why there is no flag

1) Go to www.photobucket.com

2) Set up an account.

3) Upload the picture from your computer. Their instructions are very simple, and if you have trouble ask and I'll be even more helpful.

4) Click on the 'IMG Code' button. It will copy it automatically. You'll know this because it will say "Copied."

5) Right-click on your post, and then click 'Paste'.

Ta-daaaaaa. Done.

Green is a neutral isn't it? Never seen one myself though.
