A minor glitch in BdU's radio messages
No biggy, but one for the purists...
June 19th, 1941 I received a message at 0901 from BdU regretting to inform everyone that U138 had been destroyed by warships , with all hands saved  At 1206 the same day Bdu sends a second message 'U138 - report your location and status' :-? I suppose it could happen if messages were delayed and different operators sent the messages etc. Nearly forgot, this is in GWX2.0 of course. |
They were still transmitting from the lifeboats.............

Vacillator; Indeed there is a 19410619 message "U-138 please report position and status" This is a carry-over from the 2006 log release.
The one about the boats demise is the later added more recently in GWX & RL_E. Since the demise report is sent on 19410618 I can easily change the other message and include this in the RL_E update. How does 2-days prior sound? |
I thought i heard it straight from KaptLt. Lehmann's mouth...
the U-boat loss radio messages will be eliminated from GWX2.1 because it is considered highly unlikley that BdU would broadcast such information... and also taking into consideration that sometimes such information was not available for months or even years or decades following the actual date of the sinking. look forward to this being removed from GWX 2.1 |

Oh brother...
GWX 2.1 update has these removed, with a good text editor you can do this yourself. RL_E current & update will include them, the readme will include instructions on how to delete them. |

About the messages in general I posted a while ago about the passage in the book 'Iron Coffins' where the sub receives (IIRC) 11 distress / sinking signals from other U-boats in a matter of a couple of days. None of these were from BdU who as mentioned above would be unlikely to broadcast such things but nonetheless the info was 'out there' for other uboats... |
I once got a message sadly saying that the U-99 had been lost with all hands.
The only trouble was that I WAS the U-99!!!! |
Ghost?

I can imagine the disastrous consequences in the moral of the U-Boot crew after reading or comenting this hipotetic messages, specially by May 1943 when the losses were so catastrofic(41 U-Boots losses).
