How does your game run with time compression?
Ok so im sure everyone here uses time compression in SH4 (or has alot of free time on their hands) but how does the game run?
My biggest problem with time compression is coming into the ports to refit, or after a mission. It must be something to do with the traffic in the port as at 4000x the game will start to jump like crazy and usualy result in my submarine hurtling into the port at 900 mph, thus ending my carrier :rotfl: anyone else get slowdown at the most inappropriate times? |
I have the same problem, which is why I tend to slow down to 512x or so when approaching port

And you can't shut down the radar that causes it either. Best to plan for it an reduce TC when you get near port. That's where I love the Trigger Maru remapping of the TC keys to make the backspace go to 1x in one keypress. Then you can throttle back up to 256 or 512.
People with fast 8800GT and better graphics cards are probably wondering what we're talking about. |

My solution to minimize the stuttering around port is to set a waypoint ~75 miles from port and then throttle back to 128 or so until the “ThePlayerCanDock” warning icon starts to flash (in V1.5). I use TC very modestly in the game. 1000 for short bursts of 30 sec or less.
250 tops when in enemy areas. In close to port I use 2-4X for short bursts. I enjoy the denser activity and scenery. I also like to pilot the boat right into the berth. Even in Pearl my animation is pretty smooth. -Pv- |
Another thing you want to consider is your speed. TC or not if you come flying into port on flank, even if you slow down the TC you are going to need a long way to stop that boat.

I can tel you i have a 8800GT and it's not a problem related to the graphics card. This tends to hapen when you have been out of port for a while and continus to get worse after you mission gets longer, also i have noticed taht when you get more kill's by refitting a couple of times even a tc of around 250 is terrible, and the u-boat missions is not helping out one bit,.... If anything it made it worse.
Eversince i've reffitted 3 times on a mission and saw the horrible results near port i now just run the ammo i have and return to port when it gone....:roll: |

Like the others, I always scale back to 512x when I start getting near a port. I turn off the SJ radar too, but the SD radar will still pick up patrolling aircraft. Usually when I start getting visual sightings on vessels at the port I don't go back up above 256x and Ahead Standard (using TMO), and just run on that until I can dock.

Like some already have said, I have an 8800GT and I also have the problem. I do shut off my radar and I also go down to about 250X when I am getting near to port. With my old computer using the onboard 6150 graphics card I couldn't stop one time and impaled my boat into a heavy crusier.:damn:

I tend to beleive everyone is going to have the same problem no matter what video card you have. There's a lot of data to be processed in this game and at high time compression, the processor is the weakest link. Note that the fastest TC you can use in 3d is 32X. BTW, I too shut down the radar when leaving or entering port.

Its actually not a bug. The game still keeps track of objects and such even in high time compression. The result is some stuttering as the game attempts to keep up with new contacts in high TC. It was the same in SH3. THis happens regardless of whether or not your crew/radar spots the objects. THey are there in the world doing their thing and still must be processed. A little cheat becomes available due to this. If you are traveling in enemy waters above 512 TC and start to get that stutter then there is a ship nearby. :ping:
