Urgent ! 3870x2

Hello sirs,

This is my first post on this forum. I'm vry experienced SH3 player. I use GWX 2.0 with extended damage mod.
My question is : does anyone have ATI 3870x2 with such SH3 configuration or with any SH3 config ?
I have 8800GTS (G92) at present but with GWX 2.0 and extended damage mode FPS drops to 10 - 15 when a lot of ships starts exploding.
So I'm lookgin for upgrade, 9800GTX is not worthy and 9800X2 is way to expensive.
What gains (if any) I can expect from moving to 3870x2 ?
Please answer as soon as possible.

Thank you very much

Mipko

If you aren't getting good FPS with a G92 8800GTS, then I doubt getting a marginally faster card is going to help. It sounds like the damage mod is badly unoptimized to me.

However, my brother owns a HD 3870x2, I will load SH3 and GWX/damage mod on his computer sometime over this weekend and see what happens.

thanks
M.

I've noticed that slow down to 15 FPS as well, I am also running the damage mod.

Considering I had no problems with the stock explosions, I think the fault does lie with the mod, rather than the hardware on your computer.
(Note: "fault" - not meant to hate on the mod, as I really like it. Just the mod probably runs way better with a 512 card.)

How much RAM does your computer have? That can be important too.

Welcome aboard mipko.....the card you have and a minimum of 1GB RAM should run GWX at a stroll.

What settings have you changed in the game options section/area....and what if any programmes might be running in the background that are sucking your resources ?

First of all thank you for your replies.

My system is as follows:

1. CPU - Q6600 @ 2.4GHz
2. RAM - 4GB
3. 8800GTS (G92) 512MB
4. Motherboard - Gigabyte X38-DQ6

I have installed GWX 2.0 with extended damage mod. It is noticeable nicer graphic but slower as well. In some scenes FPS drops to 10FPS.
Since I have X38 based motherboard I wonder if 3870x2 can help improve performance. Since very soon I would be buying second 3870x2 making CrossfireX.
The real question is if SH3 scales well with single 3870x2 and with CrossfireX.

I have oportunity to get 3870x2 for reasonable price, that's why I need answers promptly.

Many thanks
Mirko

My knowledge of hardware is pretty basic (you might be better off taking your query to the General Topics forum).......but from what yiu are describing I should imagine your specs are way above what the game needs to run satifactorily.

On this bit, I'm sorry, I'm not sure and would hate to give bad/floored advice.

I have a C2D 6750 not overclocked, 8800GTS with 640 MB and 2 Gig RAM, GWX 2.0 with advanced Damage activated.

Never noticed any slowdowns.

Thanks for replies.

I have decreased AA and FSAA and it is ok now - shame on me.

But the main question remains - does anyone knows how well SH3 scales on 3870x2 ?
Anyone with that GPU ?

thanks
M.
