Game patches these days

I'm pretty sick of some companies bringing out patches for games that total over 1GB. Take Medal of Honor Airborne. Patch 1.2 is 1.29GB, and so it takes me 20 minutes to extract it from the oh-so-useful .zip, then another 20 after I double click the icon for the thing to bloody do something!

I dont mind downloading multiple patches, but 1GB+ is way too much, especially if you have players who have strict download limits or dont have a fast connection. They cant play multiplayer, and they get stuck with an inferior game version that lacks the bugfixes the patches bring.

Just goes to show what a shambles the game was when it was released, the second patch is over 1 gig!

I'm OK with big patches if new content comes with them, like another map or two.

But over 1GB for just fixes, pleh!

I know. It's so bloody annoying. That's one of the problems I've always had with programs like Steam. If you download a huge game, like BioShock, it takes forever to complete, and even then, it must download patches that are like 200 MB a piece. What's worse is that Steam FORCES you to update any games you have, so you're stuck with waiting.

The short answer is this.........................

They are a big company and they make big money. Result is this, they don't give a bloody toss about you and your bitching on like some old women on prozac. :p

Time to kick them where it hurts, at the cash till.

Many gaming sites will ship you DVDs with patches and whatever other content you want for a small fee.

Sounds like North Korea.

Or those of us with the norm 3Gb cap. Something else I'm stick of is the way publishers force a game out the door, you get home and there is already a patch out. Its stupid, they should have had the stuff in the game before shipping. SHIV is a good example of a game that was broken on release, I wish games would actually work without show stopping bugs and faults because they're too busy looking for cash than a good quality product.
