You arrive in rostock? Old Hanse-town, I recommend to take the nice road trip along the coast to Kühlungsborn (old seaside resort of quite some beauty in places) and continuing to Wismar next, and check the beautfil old town there, and 30 minutes in car behind: Lübeck, which you really should check carefully again, it is the most beautiful of the old Hanse-cities there were (having been the main city of the alliance). For Lübeck, you should really reserve one day at least, and discover the oldtown on the central island exclusively. If you plan to take a headquarter for some days, book a socalled "Ganghaus". Many of them are so cute and gemütlich that you do not wish to leave them anymore, especially during christmas.
Trust me, I know both cities, and Lübeck I know very well. It's my place of choice, and a true love of mine. they have some good reastaurants, too. Try the famous "Schiffergesellschaft" close to the Burgtor in the north, if fish is for you. But they are a bit expensive, but the main room is VERY old, almost medieval. there is also a restaurant in a deep dungeon under the "Heiliger Geist Spital" close to the Schiffergesellschaft, I repeatedly had very tasty steaks down there, and it really is like sitting in the womb of earth. Look for the small entrance (a long tunnel with steeps stairs leading down for quite some time) on the right side of the front of the main building, one could easily miss it. On the backside of the building there was a good vine-bistro, but last time I checked, they were closed. Don't know if forever. Coser to the centre of the pedestrian zone, there are a lot of nice street cafes, with mixed and/or younger audience, usually with very relaxed atmosphere. It all is very relaxed and gemütlich there, as long as the tourists do not completely crowd the city, which unfortunately happens more and more often during the main season and at christmas. |
My travelling will start 3 of july and i have seen sites of Deutsche Alleenstrasse, what is a route trough Germany ,distance is about 2500 km,it would be interesting road to drive, what will be your opinion,do you Skybird know that route? If i keep that route my main road and take stops to interesting places

It's a question of taste, and what one is looking for. I tend to prefer Schleswig-Holstein (most northern Germany), and Bavaria (most southern Germany). The Teutoburger Wald north of here where I live also has some nice places, and despite some wider forests also a hilly terrain which both makes it attractive, but it is relatively small in size, and I would not recommend neither Osnabrück nor Münster for tourist stays, so maybe it is not for you anyway. I really would consider to give Lübeck a day, and maybe Hamburg, Munich. Berlin is overestimated, you must not have seen it, really - only if you are into art museums and cultural life , of which it has a lot to offer, berlin also hosts two of the leading orchestras in Germany and Europe, both of world format - sometimes more, sometimes less. Bavaria is the other place where to stay I always enjoyed. What I had seen in the middle between these two most northern and most southern federal states of Germany, did not really attract me, but I possibly have not seen much. Indeed, I haven'T, and tend to prefer places that I am familiar with and that I like. I am no more attracted that much by what is new. |
Thanks for your opinion Skyrider,i've been now searching camping sites near Lubeck and Hamburg. My car is Chevy van ,so my comfortable "marching" speed is about 80 kmh,and i'm gonna sleep in car ,so i don't need hotels, maybe Gästezimmer mit Balkon,if needed

The museum of photography in Berlin is incredible :)
Also, great clubbing Also, Berliner Weisse :) |
If you are interested in Tanks than you should visit the Panzermuseum in Munster which has a pretty large collection Tanks from all nation. Uniforms and other pieces of equipment are also shown if i remember correctly.
http://www.panzermuseum.com/ It is located in Munster in the Lüneburger Heide not too far away from Hamburg, easily reachable by car and well worth a visit. I was there myself some years ago. |

And don't stick around the Kudamm like a lot of tourists whose guidebook is from the 80's. If you go to Deutsches Museum in Munich, don't forget to make a trip to the aircraft collection in Oberschleissheim (which is somewhat outside of town). The car collection is in its own complex too (with the Auto Union famous from Bernd Rosemeyer). |
