NVidia drivers responsible for 30% of Vista crashes
Wasn't I just complaining about NVidia drivers the other day? More fuel to the fire. Their drivers suck! No other way to say it. :nope:

All I need to do is sneeze towards Vista and it crashes and formats my HDD. No need to blame others for Microsoft's crappy OS.

Two stickers on my laptop, right beside each other.
One says "powered by nVidia", the other "Windows Vista capable". Yeah, right :p |

Well that's funny, because when I had Vista, I had absolutely no problems with my Nvidia card. And that was ~6months ago. I doubt they downgrade their drivers. ;)
Besides, I dont get what's the point with these threads. They are just begging to catch fire. |

Let the thread flame up. It needs to. -S |
Oh wait! Here's an article of the same thing!
First of all, it says EARLY VISTA. And second of all, it says it has been solved; "...but as it stands now, both companies have very stable drivers under the OS..." Oh and after that: "(even though ATI's takes three times as long to install)". http://techgage.com/news/nvidia_most...vista_crashes/ :roll: And from the article you posted: "If the number of failures were split by month and then graphed, we'd presumably see the number of NVIDIA driver failures per month decreasing as the company slowly brought its driver issues under control." and "The data clearly indicates that NVIDIA had a driver problem, but it's impossible to quantify the scope of that problem given the numbers above. NVIDIA holds a greater percentage of the market than ATI, which means that there will inevitably be a higher percentage of NVIDIA driver crashes than ATI driver crashes; however, the degree to which such market share considerations have affected the results above is hard to determine in the absence of more data. There's also the matter of data collection; Microsoft's charts do not clarify if multiple crashes from a single system each counted as separate events. In theory, NVIDIA's proportion of total driver crashes could be inflated by a relatively small handful of systems with severe driver issues." |

This link you provided got it wrong. ANd I still have drivers hacks on my machine after 1.5 friggen years!!!!!! And Nvidia was helping with the hack, but dropped it! What BS. Not to come down on you or anything, but as you can tell, I am completely frustrated with their lack of support. Or should I say - no support? I have incredibly buggy drivers for an 1575 chipset made by them, and only a hack has fixed my timing issue. This is even after they know about the problem - for 1.5 years!!!! -S |
I understand your frustration... heck, I'd be frustrated too in your situation. ;) I'll just end my part of this "duel of the GPUs" by saying that IN MY EXPERIENCE, I've had no problems with Nvidia and naturally, every PC is different. Some work just fine and some have problems. I'm actually amazed how I've kept all my PCs intact. First of all, it's on 24/7 and atm, I dont have anykind of anti-virus program installed. :p Let's hope they get all the bugs ironed out soon.

Didn't want to come in at the beginning and spoil the party.....besides I'd no popcorn in http://imgcash1.imageshack.us/img231...opcorn3dv3.gif http://img221.imageshack.us/img221/4...kbigid2zj6.gif
One question if I may.....How come Nvidia are so popular and Vista has such a crap reputation then ? I honestly thought (and I've purchased a laptop for my daughter recently with the Vista OS-mainly because there was no other real choice) that Vista was proving incompatable with more software than any other Windows systwm thus far developed http://img98.imageshack.us/img98/181...kbigsw1yo4.gif |
Originally Vista had some teething problems with drivers. Most are fixed now. SOme are not. Some are not even fixed on XP as in my case!

Rgr that.
If I'm being totally honest I'd have to say that most of the software I've put on her system which initially proved incompatable was soon overcome by various means ;) Daemon Tools being the last instance. |
