DD Disappearance

Ok I know I'm a bit behind in things but I finally managed to get TMO (not for the add-on) and noticed that in 7 war patrols I didn't see any DDs around. In fact I only ran into small naval TFs with Heavy Cruisers and the only time I saw any DDs they were dumb as office furniture. They exploded out of nowhere. I'm using TMO, RSRDC for TMO, NSM4. What gives here?:damn:

Rockin Robbins 03-25-08 07:27 AM

Very strange

Well, I'm behind you, having started my U-Boat career before TMO came out. I haven't gone back to port yet so can't install TMO. I don't know if it would be a good idea to install TMO while I'm running a U-Boat campaign anyway, and I hate the idea of installing and uninstalling mods depending on what kind of career I'm running at the time. What if I want to alternate days?

I can see a dual SH4UBM installation coming on: one for U-Boat, one for Fleet Boat. I'm still at sea in Kraken in my last patch 1.4 cruise. I won't be phasing out 1.4 until I return to base on that one. Then I guess it's surgery time. :/\\chop

But to answer your question, if it's 1944 or 1945 the Japanese DD fleet should be cut down to size by now and you should be seeing a motely collection of escorts, featuring the hated subchaser.

Actually it's between Dec. 1941 and August 1942. Still little or no DDs. What did Ducimus do this time me wonder?:hmm:

Rockin Robbins 03-25-08 08:29 AM

That's really strange

What the title says:up: Doesn't seem normal to me either.

DavyJonesFootlocker 03-25-08 08:44 AM

I'll chalk it up as another Twilight Zone episode.:yep:

Ducimus 03-25-08 11:19 AM

Ships exploding is my fault. I never ran into it, but i knew it was possible. Its due to the wave settings.

Traffic, is ALL RSRD.

Rockin Robbins 03-25-08 11:27 AM

That's the end of the thread then.

It isn't nice to argue with RSRD! :gulp::rotfl:

Good that at least clears up the exploding DDs. I also found out the deck gun have some uses after all. They can actually destroy a Small Old Tanker. I ran out of torps in the middle of the Banda Sea and decided what the hell. The ship took some good hits and blew up real nice and bright. Now, all I have to do is find that worm hole those ships are disappearing into.

Ducimus 03-25-08 03:44 PM

exploding DD's is easy to fix. Just go into the sim.cfg and change the wave attunation back to 0.2 (its 0.4 in that version of TM).

Then change the wave factor settings in the visual block, back to 4 (it 2.5 or so in that version of TM).

That fixes that.

I have LBO installed also. Won't that affect that Mod? I wouldn't want to screw with the wave attenuation or else I may get back that surfing sub again. Would that happen? I also have diverate mod installed now. Any conflicts you would know of if I change the settings. I only saw the exploding DDs in one patrol in the Java Sea. The weather was rough and the water shallow. Could they have hit the bottom and blew up? I also noticed the escorted Heavy cruisers catching on fire.

Needless to say with the DDs gone I made minced meat out of the cruiser. Boy talk about a cheat I didn't activate.:rotfl:

Ducimus 03-25-08 04:48 PM

>>I have LBO installed also. Won't that affect that Mod?

Oh hell yes. I included the scene.dat i did in that version of TM for a reason. The wave settings were such that the chance of exploding ships is MUCH lower. I tested it with other scene.dats and the results were bad. Other scene.dat files make the wave hieights 512 instead of 256, and a few other minor items. Results are with the wave attuenment value i used in the sim.cfg.... KABOOM.

As a test, go to the sub school navagation mission (make the wind 15 kts first), and watch how fast elcos explode with one scene.dat vs the other. They WILL explode, but ill bet you much quicker with LBO installed. That said, elco's are a rather unique uinit, with how quick it explodes (MUCH QUICKER then other units), but its a good bench mark to gague the wave adustments.

I did test this throughly, in various test missions. Like i said, i included the file i did for a reason. If you want to use LBO, reverse the changes in the sim.cfg that i described.

Hi DJF :D I posted on another thread but maybe Ducimus will see it here.

I'd like the TMO & RSRD that you have as I don't plan on getting the ADDON.

DavyJonesFootlocker 03-26-08 07:42 AM

Ok Duci. I plan to keep LBO so I'll don me lab coat and do some reverse engineering.:yep:

re: FIREWALL- I don't have the add-on either and with no connection in the jungle I can't download it anyway. So I'll stick with 1.4 for the while.

Just those two items in the /data/sim.cfg file. Nothing terrinbly fancy or overcomplicated. ;)
