Luftwaffe Air-Sea Rescue Buoy???
Hey soo does anyone have any more info on Luftwaffe air-sea rescue buoys? I remember reading a WW2 book and it mentioned how the German Navy deployed them in the English Channel for Luftwaffe pilots who had to bail out. How could that work in the game? Hmm maybe we could have small side missions that send uboats to rescue to pilots? I saw a picture of one of those bouys that washeh ashore in England and it looked like a Porta potty on top of some floating barrels. then there was a picture of the supplies inside, it had canned water/food, dry clothing, blankets, a raft, flares, pretty much everything a pilot needs to survive at sea. Has anyone ever heard of these? Can they be scripted into the game?
Edited........ i found some great info on the rescue buoy http://www.lonesentry.com/articles/t...scue-buoy.html |
Like anything else, they can be built and put into the game.
I've got a bit of info on them. ;) http://i108.photobucket.com/albums/n...2006/udet1.jpg http://i108.photobucket.com/albums/n...2006/udet2.jpg |
You need a Storch then to pick them up
IIRC the Germans used them for spying also so the RAF started shooting them down even thugh painted white with the cross on the side lol |
Interesting little side operation. But still, I will stay out of Der Kanal :smug:

Just what we need to do,
Tell everyone to stay out of the Channel, then put eye candy there to draw 'em in! |
There was one German long range maritime fighter unit, the V Gruppe/Kampfgeschwader 40 which operated regularly over the Bay of Biscay. Diverting a U-Boat to pick up one of their downed pilots on ocassion could be a possibilty. :hmm:

Since my current career is still very early in the war and got somewhat far patrol area (for a VIIB) so decided to go through Der Kanal and then pass through Scapa Flow on the return. When I passed by the Denmark coast there were a few of these buoy's in the water; though they were owned by Denmark (which is still neutral right now) there's still several of them ingame (GWX2).

Ya, We're good.
But not THAT good! Sheeze, I just finished UVing the hull!! :rotfl: |
They look like mini U-boats, maybe they should have been fitted with a couple of torp. tubes and trim tanks, so the shot down Luft. fliers could get some payback. But then they would have to have a mini crew waiting, when the pilot swam up and boarded:
