OK very funny, who turned the lights off ?
Just installed SH4/U-Boat Missions on Vista (had it on XP) before. Everything looks fine until right after the intro movie when it just goes dark. I get sound but obviously can't play in the dark. I know this is probably a tech issue but I was curious if anyone has seen (pardon the pun) this before?
Simming in the darknesss... :shifty: |
I've seen several complaints of the same problem, but don't remember seeing a definitive answer(perhaps codec issue, perhaps no DX9 installed, etc). Perhaps this link will help http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/sear...earchid=334749

Vista is slowing becoming a swear word.

SH4 1.5 + VISTA + Nvidia Graphics Card (Maybe only 8XXX series cards) = Totally B.S. Crashes and the dreaded nvlddmkm error crash/BSOD/Re-boot, etc.
There should be no problem with stock SH4 1.4 install. Install an a folder other than C:\Program Files though. |
Thanks mates for the insight. I think I've got it humming now. Just deleted all the Nvidia drivers and then reinstalled Forceware 169.25. Running well and looks very crisp. Off to start another cruise.

If you have more than one harddrive, set up a folder on the second hd, I call mine games. As long as you're not running in a raid configuration. This keeps your games separate from the C Drive where Windows resides. It seems to keep the games more stable. I had the same issue when I first loaded up SH4 on the new rig, which I run Vista x64 bit, but I didn't load DX9 since I already had DX10. So I unistalled the game, cleared the registry, and reloaded the game and installed DX9 then loaded up update 1.4, and TM.
Over at Shockwave Production forums under the Battle of Britain there's a thread where DX10 is missing a D3D9 file, that corrects some issues with games designed for DX9. It resolved issues I was having with SH4 and BoB II WoV. Hope this helps! |

And it's always best practice to have your operating system on one partition (c drive) and games/other software on another. That way if the o/s crashes you still have all your saved game/software files on another drive. |
