Big dog - science fiction becomes reality

I think everyone's gotta see this:

I think everyone who has seen the big dog videos will agree that they have more or less done it. This machine moves like a normal animal. It might actually have a better balance than most of them.

At the end of last century there was a general agreement that artificial intelligence is going nowhere. Now, just a couple of years later it looks like we are going to see robots with about the intelligence / motoric of animals in our lifetime. I am amazed.

What surprises me is how frightening this is. It's creepy. I can only imagine what it will be like to see one day a computer talk / behave like a human.

And lets not forget this comes with a lot of real danger for humanity. I guess it's time to read Asimov again - what was science fiction yesterday might become important very soon.

Here is another video of similar robots:

Different, but still strange:

Imagine weapons mounted on that thing. You're in your little trench when suddenly you hear that familiar "BuzzzZZZZzzzzZZZZZ"... LOTS of buzz's coming from diferent directions....

I'd pretty much soil myself.

I wonder if those people who work with the machine hear that buzzing noise in their sleep at night.

Very strange contraption indeed. Interesting how it handles the balance to stay upright.

Ahh.. the wonder of gyroscopes and processing power. I'm just imagining improved models running rampant, armored, and armed on the battlefield.

That's amazing! Moves VERY realisticly in situations where it is about to lose balance. Now, I can finally get a robot to bring me my beer instead of having to walk to the fridge.

Way, way, WAY in the Uncanny Valley, this thing

I don't want to look at it EVER again :dead:

I Robot.

I think it's pretty cool. They said it has a 300-pound payload--I'll bring a saddle.

Never gonna happen. Computers are logical, methodological, dependable, consistent, non-belligerent, unemotional.
