SH4 Memory manager?
Hi All,
OS: XP I was wondering if anyone is using a memory manager with good results...specifically MEMTURBO? I so, what settings are you using. If not Memturbo, what are you using? Does it make that much of a difference. Joe  |
I use IOBit Advanced Windowcare Personal and it came with a memory manager. I'm not sure that it really does all that much for the game - I haven't noticed an increase in frame rates.

Wow, this question takes me back. Back when all the kewl people hung out on usenet, I would get into it on a regular basis with those computer eggspurt idiots and their "Windows hints and tips" web sites. Not one of them had the slightest clue, but by persistent regurgitation they managed to perpetuate the same obsolete or just plain bad info regarding Windows memory management until volume and consistency gave it the appearance of being credible.
I was engaged in what amounted to a one man crusade! Ah.... good times. Anyway... What was the question? Ah yes... Memory managers for Windows have been completely superfluous since Win95 OSR2. At best these things are a waste of time, money and/or system resources... at worst, they can hose your system. :o JD |
Actually using programs like MemTurbo can harm performance. Windows uses spare memory as a cache, and programs like Memturbo often delete this cache to give the appearance of having more free memory, which means more hard drive use. RAM seek times are measured in billionths of a second, hard drive in milliseconds. RAM throughput is measured in thousands of megabytes per second, hard drive speeds in tens of megabytes per second.
Defragmenting your RAM is about as beneficial as defragging your flash drive...which is to say... not beneficial (actually harmful for flash drives). RAM seek times are so small as not to matter whether its 'fragmented' or not. |
i have a program called FSautostart. i use it for my flight sim but it can be used for any executable program. i average about 1900 megs of virtual memory and excellent frame rates

Haha. 2GB...same here.
My opinion, go to this site and follow the directions closely. Optimizing your OS will do far more than any memory manager. |
Best thing you can do is Get that crap off your system.
