Help with radio!
Hello fellow subsimmers!
I seem to be having some trouble with my radio mods. I use KBMG Honolulu, CBS radio and KPO stations. I prepared them using Radio Station Manager and I checked that they are unpacked to the right folders. At least as much as possible, since I'm not quite sure how a proper unpacking should look like. Anyhow, there is complete and utter silence whenever I tune in to one of the stations! For several days, nothing but silence. Anyone experienced the same thing? By the way: My very first own thread. Greetings subsim, longtime lurker signing in properly! :D |
Welcome BT! In regards to your problem: When you open RSM, on the top box, there should be your stations, when you click the box to the left of the station name it should change color and a bunch of scripted events will fill in the bottom box.(Go through each station and hit the apply changes button in turn) Check the dates and times, that is when these media files will play. I try to keep a log of whats about to play so I can flip to that station in-game. Are your station folders in the sh4/data/sound/radio folder? Is there an event.ini file in each station folder? Little errors will screw things up.... did you check to see if station names pop up when you "tune" the radio in-game? Hope this helps. TIP: There is a thread that offers numerous music of that time period, if you D/L a few of those songs and put them into each station folder, (NOT the events folder located in the station folder but the main station folder), you will get some background music when scripted events are not playing!

The stations don't come with music. This saves download file size, and allows the user to use whatever music they want to.
For those stations sub-divided by year, you have to put the music in each year folder. If it's not divided by year, it all goes in the station folder itself. As 1480 pointed out, don't put music in any Events folder as it won't play from there. |
Thanks for the quick reply!
Your tips really helped (especially the one about checking the dates to see if something was actually on :p). Although one or two of the mp3s weren't recognised by RSM and I had to remove them. Everything works now though, and I just listened to my first news broadcast. Very cool. Adds tons to the immersion, although the sound was very muted. EDIT: Any way to make the radio louder? Have it turned up all the way in sound options... |

DT, will Volume on News utilize numbers >1.0? I know it accepts them but does the volume adjustment max out at 1 if you go over 1.0? |
It was my understanding that that variable only affects the music volume when a news (scripted) item is playing. I think the game will treat anything over 1 as 1, but I'm not sure about that (never tried it).
If I'm not mistaken there is a volume entry in the .....\Data\Sound\Sh.sdl file (adjustable with S3D) for the radio. |
