S.O.S. - Stuck in Celebes Busted Prop Shaft
Howdy Folks!
After many many glorious battles and now late in the war... I find I gambled one too many times and find myself with a broken prop shaft. I was able to repair starboard shaft but the port side is nonrepairable. Steering is not possible. I am guessing there is no way to get a tow? I have saved along the way but that is the easy way out. Am I correct there is no way to get a tow? Thanks Jack |

I dont think there is a solution, unfortunatley. That's one of the things I would've loved to have seen. A way out should something like that happen. It also pains me that there is no Abandon Ship order :-?

I like to play dead is dead but I save alot and when unrealistic things like this pop up, I'll reload.:yep: |
That has been one of the major complaints about SH4. It's also a headache when you have a disabled rudder. In SH3 the 'teleport' function was considered unrealistic, but at least it was there in an emergency. They really should have included a realistic way out of that situation.

Once in a while you could even get a tow if you ran low on fuel too. I remember seeing the graphic anyway. I voted wrong in donuts poll, have regretted it, and wish I could change to: "Yes" I would pay $$ for individual drive shaft control - especially for use in these situations. Art PS: (excuse) at the time of the vote there were other things that needed fixing IMO |

http://neptoon.homestead.com/TOWED.jpg In real life, if a sub was seriously damaged beyond repair, another sub probably would have been vectored in by radio to assist to take off the crew. The famous Darter and Dace incident comes to mind. However, no one is going to send a tug or a tender deep behind enemy lines where there is no air cover. Maybe if you're close to base. You should be able to operate on one drive shaft tho. Might as well have a 'Game Over' message pop up when you get permanent steering damage. |
