TM Wave/Ocean settings

Someone asked this of me.

Quote:

but why waves back to stock?
My response is this:

A number of reasons, but the biggest one is i need help with getting the waves JUST RIGHT. I need a custom made scene.dat, from a modder with more experience with that file then i do.

That and theres alot of cool wave/ocean mods. With the settings ive had to use, it makes TM uncompatible with ANY of them. Users ARE going to switch files if they think another looks cooler.

And then they'll be yelling at me, or the ocean mods author on how come their waves are huge and their boat is flying.

In the end, i tossed in the towel on that particualr aspect. If i could get a better scene.dat file tailor made to the wave mechanics ive been using, then id put the larger waves back in. But, ive got enough to work on, and im tired of messing with this aspect of the mod.

That said, if people REALLY prefer the old wave settings, ill reverse this change.

Hence poll.

I'm willing to try stock, again, since there is a boat draft mod.

Plus, for you vets out there, how "wavy" is the south Pacific? I run into a lot of storms and rough seas. I feel like I'm in the Atlantic. This is more of a weather issue, but I think it's too windy.

I have to say, im surpised. The majority seems to like the waves stock. Tweaking the attuenment setting in the sim.cfg , i thought made it the most ..err well, what is peceived as realistic, and all but got rid of the sub on rails effect.

But in the end, i'll degress on this one. Makes for maximum compatiblity with any future work on scene.dat files by other modders.

I installed the 1.4 waves for 1.5 mod last night and it made a big difference with the Typ IX. With 1.5 stock waves, the boat was sometimes diving to 30 feet in rough seas and the deck crew kept disappearing. I couldn't even repair the AA guns. I installed the mod before the next patrol and it was a huge improvement.

I actually liked the tweaked attuenment setting. In stormy seas it was cool to see the ship rock and noticeably dive into the next wave. Just my preference though, I'll have to go along with whatever is decided in the end. :D

The poll right now looks almost to be tied.

I like the rough seas effects as long as the crew doesn't keep disappearing. A change needs to be made to the code (i.e a patch) such that the crew disappearing depends on the depth AND whether the order to dive has been given.

Thats acutally easily fixed by adjusting the subs cfg file.

That's good to know. :) I'll have to look for it tonight.

Anything that reduces the ridiculous storm / 15mps condition waves gets my vote !
Stock values are better , IMHO.

What we really need is more of a swell and less choppy / disturbed sea state .

Just my 5 p worth, keep up the good work Ducimus ,

TMO rules.
