So first:many thanks for GWX2.0 mod,it is very great many ways! And my question:

HundertzehnGustav 03-05-08 10:57 AM

in the water?:D

LOL

if you really want to KNOW, open the mission builder, and open the campaign-RND file or the Camaign SCR file

:yep:

Other than that, i can tell you that in the early months of 1940, there is a lot of action (and i really mean a LOT) when the germans invade Danmark and Norwegen.
The Northern Sea between UK and Norvegen is a good place for hunting at that moment. lots of cruisers and BBs to be seen.:D

HundertzehnGustav 03-05-08 10:58 AM

Welcome aboard, Torpedo!
Early in the war quite a few convoys are escorted by battleships :D

:know: Good to know. Now I know exactly where any minefields are. It's sort like intelligent report, also great for harbor raiding. Interesting, there are minefields in deep water areas between Iceland & Loch Ewe.. I wonder what keeping the mines from floating away. over 1000m of chains per mines to seafloor?

Don't be silly, it would require way too much chains. They simply tie 2000km of chains between Iceland and Loch Ewe and attach mines to it. They are clever people you know

:rotfl: :rotfl:

How did you know

:damn:

....and in shallower water we employ mermaids to hold them just below the surface http://www.psionguild.org/forums/ima...eywolftail.gif

The bulk of the (starting) British fleet was built upon ships that were built or laid down during WWI. The Hood has an interesting history around its construction, trying to be faster than a dreadnought like a cruiser yet armed as good as a capital ship. The flaw in the design was ultimately exposed by the Bismark (....) by dropping a perfect shot through the thin deck armor. Pretty much the same way the Arizona was sunk, just the fatal shot was right on the mark. Besides submarines (in general) I can't think of any other ship in any theatre that suffered an almost 100% loss of all sailors on board. Sorry for the tangent there :D

Since Brittan already had the largest naval surface fleet when the war started there was already a lot of capital ships in service that could be some of the juicy targets  As already mentioned most of the Brittish Navy became convoy escorts while still keeping a good balance of available ships at Scapa Flow and Gibraltor. If you see/can find a copy of the b&w movie Sink the Bismark! it gives a pretty accurate representation of the Brittish fleet deployment both before and during the events surrounding the Bismark. As a WWII historian (major focus is on the Luftwaffe though, I've always admired the tactics, dynamics, the last era or pure dogfigthing, and the enormous technological achievements) its easy to list the times/dates were Brittish captial ships were sunk. Unless you want to become Gunther Prien and sneak into Scapa Flow I think only 1 other (capital) ship was sunk in harbor (off the top of my head). As it was extremely expensive to send capital ships to escort convoys they tried to keep them close to England, yet far enough to be effective in patrolling (high traffic areas).
