No German voices in U-boat missions??

I fired up the u-boat missions expansion (which kicks ass btw) to find that all my german sailors have american accents..I had a look through the menu but couldnt seem to find the option like in SH3 to change the language of the voices.. Have I overlooked a setting somewhere?

I know it's only a few voices but it really bugs me :damn: lol

eh..actually I wonder if you could use an SH3 sound mod and just change the file names to suit (if they need to be changed at all?)

Yeah, I think this is a big problem in SH4... I'm pretty sure it's like this anyway:

You can't change the language once the program has been installed, so you have to change the language in the installation language.

I accidentally installed SH4 in German once, and couldn't find the setting to change the language anywhere, so I had to reinstall selecting English.

EDIT: Checking the main.cfg in the SH4 my documents folder, the langauge settings are totally gone as compared to the SH3 main cfg. No idea why they would have gotten rid of this.

ah you see I would like the text and menu's etc to be in english, but the german sailors to speak german..when they speak in an american accent it kind of ruins the immersion..

It would be good if, like in SH3, you could set the characters to speak in german while the game runs in english.

I'm sure a simple sound mod could fix the problem..and will just have to remove the sound mod whenever I want to use an american sub, or the americans will all be speaking german! :smug:

I'm actually not sure if SH4 even has German voices... but you can try installing using the German language option and see if it does. If this is the case, then just copy the speech folder out of that installation, and paste it into an English installation.

Alternatively chuck in the SH3 speech files and see what happens.

yer I dont have Sh3 to grab the speech files from, that was my first idea..

I'll try install in german and see if the sailors speak in german..

Boris 02-27-08 01:06 PM

Well if they don't, then it's really poor form to release a U-boat mod without German voices.

any chance of a uploading the SH3 german voices files?? or where I can find them?

To be perfectly honest, I'm not surprised. Its the typical kind of oversight that the devs would make. Although it would be cool to play U-boats in the Pacific, its just a sales ploy. Not really a huge amount of content added IMHO.

Ching ching go the money tills. :88)

Not my cup of tea, due to the fact you could call it a what if add on. No thank you I got better things to spend my money on like a good WW2 book. ;)

U 862 was the only German U-boat in the Pacific and sunk an American merchant ship on the Australian east coast, all other German Monsun U-boats operated from the island of Penang (Malaysia) in the Indian Ocean and South China Sea.

Yeah, but not buying this addon could ruin Ubisoft Romania, and that means ruining the development of WW2 sub-simulations for years to come.

DavyJonesFootlocker 02-27-08 01:56 PM

Well, that's Ubi for ya. Allowing Hollywood to make the expansion with American voice overs.

According to uboat.net, it looks like at least 4 operated in the Pacific...
http://uboat.net/maps/indian_ocean.htm This map only shows where the boats were sunk.

If they only restricted themselves to the Indian ocean, they wouldn't have built satellite bases in Singapore and Java.

I just came across that before you posted. Looks like they are sort of contradicting themselves... OR... the other boats sunk in the Pacific were supply boats moving material to and from Japan.
