How'd I get a Balao in 1942? (RSRD)

I don't know if this has to do with the game mechanics or not, but I just wanted to let you know. In my current career, with SubPac in November 1942, I was offered to take command of a new submarine type (currently I was using a Gato). I accepted the offer, and sure enough I got a Balao type sub in November 1942!
I did a quick check of the campaign files and nothing seemed out of place. Can you double-check to make sure all is working correctly? I'm running RSRD with the latest updates.
