Hmm...:hmm:

Not sure what to say.

:hmm:

I didnt know Macaulay Culkin was playing The Red Baron.

:-?

Seriously, can't we have any less romance scenes and less CG over-the-top-ness and a bit more reality?

When will movie makers realize that reality is actually more interesting and often stranger than overdramatization?

Stealth Hunter 02-23-08 02:09 PM

Well, I still have high hopes for the film. Might not be worth an 8/10, but surely a 7 or 7.4/10.

Hehe...

Looks a little lame though. Firstly I'm annoyed they shot it in english, because the dubbed voices in German sound really bad. And yes, it should be in German because it's about the Red Baron.

They could also have gotten someone a bit younger than Lena Heady to play the love interest. She looks old enough to be the guys mother... on a sidenote, her german dubbed voice is cringeworthy... I hate to think how this is going to come across if Sarah Connor chronicles ever starts here. It just wouldn't fit.

Might be fun to watch, but I'm not expecting a lot

WW1 movies are few and far between. I can already see myself hitting the next track button a few times though when i watch it...

CCIP 02-23-08 02:14 PM

Yea, I mean I'll certainly see it but I don't expect a classic with this one either.

Actually it's been a while since I've seen a really good new war movie (the last one I think was Der Untergang). Has there been any good ones in the last couple of years?

Stealth Hunter 02-23-08 02:50 PM

Kingdom of Heaven wasn't a bad war movie (not modern, of course, but the topic, The Crusades, was quite interesting).

If you're looking for a good WWI film, then I'd suggest you check out The Lost Battalion. Not many others have come out which instantly come to my mind. Der Untergang was actually the last World War II film I've seen in ages.:o :yep:

It seems like Hollywood is cutting down on the World War films that are made. Sad, too. Although Steven Spielberg is planning a new miniseries like Band of Brothers, only set in the Pacific Theatre for HBO (loathsome channel which is practically just porn; nothing tasteful IMO).

Don't know about HBO being completely loathsome, don't watch the channel itself... but they bring out some top shows. Deadwood and Rome were awesome too!

I also thought Kingdom of Heaven was a great movie, way underrated IMO. Aesthetically at least, it is perfect. It's a great epic, even if it does star Orlando (nothing against him, he makes a great elf, but he just lacks manliness)

Nice trailer. I've been looking forward to it for a long time, but I suspect it will end up being less than noteworthy. I haven't seen a truly good WWI aeroplane movie since The Blue Max, and that was forty years ago.

I agree completely, give me sub-titles over dubbing any day. There is always something lost in translation but at least you can hear the original and pick up the general tone of voice.

Stealth Hunter 02-23-08 06:03 PM

The problem I have with some subtitled films is that they move extremely fast, and they also cause my eyes to sometimes burn (I've always had that problem with small lettering).

silentrunner 02-23-08 06:20 PM

Looks like Flyboys all over again, except about a German pilot.

Biggles 02-23-08 06:43 PM

It is good to note that they have done their research somewhat correct: Seeing him flying the Albatros instead of the Fokker DR.1 I mean. He only flew the Triplane at the very end.
