[TEC] Max polygon count
 
Can someone tell me what the maximum number of polygons a ship can have in SH4?

I think the thing to do is load the Yamato ship in the mission editor, and set your play graphics to max. Check out the Yamato DDS files.

Do a quick mission and check out the detail, keeping this in mind.

- All polygon shapes are made out of triangles
- every rectangle shape has 2 triangles
- A fan shape is multiple triangles
- All objects are made out of multiple triangles.

Count the 'objects'.. the more complex the object shape - the more triangles.
A long winded idea, but you'll get a ball park idea.

Ive had an old model of a ship on my desktop for years now, got it from some web site, its an IJN carrier not yet in SH4 heres its status.

67732 Polygons

33881 Vertices

105 Sub-objects

Would this model work in SH4 or is the poly count over the limit?

I'm sure that would bring any graphics card to a grinding halt.
Ja, it's always a trade off between Detail and Speed until the world biggest PC comes up with the ultimate answer to everything and all else... '42'

Found the pic its the "Kaga" first ship in my sig. Is it possible to reduce its poly count?
