Stoopid question, Navy buffs needed

Guy in a thread asks 'Do you collect memorabilia off subs' etc That i understand.

But what is he going on about when he states this: --> I have a heavy bronze plaque off a nuclear subs tender ship I have considered selling. Is he talking bout a tender ship - whats a heavy bronze plaque?
I dont want to ask him 'what do you mean' just incase he thinks what an idiot:oops: figure i will get a more mature response here;):)

Well it could mean a lot of things really.

Plank owner = on the boat when it was commissioned, receives a plaque

They have a plaque that has all the names who were on it when it was commissioned also.

Those two come to mind right away

STOOPID IS...

Two blondes were watching the Aircraft carrier NIMITZ comming into port.

The first blonde says "I think the pointy end is the front of the boat"
The other blonde says "OK" But where are it's Wings" ?

As Urspankd says, it could be a lot of things. Most ships have plaques commemorating their build, commissioning, recommissioning or just foreign vists etc.

Why not contact the guy and ask if he can send you a picture?

PS - There are no stupid questions - just stupid answers ;)

The way it sounds is he is talking about the tender. The submarine tenders are known as AS, Destroyer tenders are AD's. AS 41 is the McKee and is the latest one. Then you have the Frank Cable and the Emory S Land. Hope that help you out Kiwi.

Kiwi,
Yes he's talking a plaque from a tender ship, not a submarine. Tenders are used as supply and repair for subs and can be sailed and ported in any harbor.
Heavy bronze plaque could be that that ships logo is made of bronze and attached to a wood surface.....The Logo was probably from a mold of sand in which molten bronze was poured.......

How much does he want for it?

Mr. Garrison disagrees:

"Alright, children! Just remember there are no stupid questions, just stupid people."
