couple of newbie questions 1) torpedo data says range is 5 km (G7a) but if I shoot at

anything over 2 km away i never even come close to reaching target ? is 2 km the limit of torp range?

2) stupid but is it pronouced sub-marine -er ( 3 syllables) or sub-mariner (2 syllables)

1) You must fire on an intercept course; that is, the travel distance must be shorter than the max range. If the eel has to chase the target, it won't get there. Also, what was the speed of the torp? Faster setting equals less range.

2) For some odd reason it's sub-marine-er. I say odd because a surface sailor is a mariner, not a marine-er. Go figure.

aaa haaaa faster less range makes sense

thanks steve!

you are so right steve

was just looking at distance to target as distance eel actually travellled and forgot intercept distance ---the basic geometry--- c = sq root( a2 + b2) -- good old pythagoras !!! what a dummkopf I am !!! thanks again

In UK English, it would be the latter.

Cheers,

Even in the U.S. "submariner" can be pronounced either way or have you forgotten about "Prince Namor"? :p

I actually heard a sub-guy say "I'm a sub-marine-er, not the King of Atlantis."

Isn't it: dumb person who goes willingly into a steel coffin which is designed to sink?

Sorry bad joke :nope:
