Arrrghh!
Last night's patrol was hair raising and frustating at the same time. You guys know how I don't like convoys. But in the Java Sea I ran into a Task Force comprising of 2 Takao Heavy Cruisers and about 4 DDs. Sent a report to command and they ordered me to inflict heavy losses to the TF. Ok, so I went after the lead Cruiser which was perfectly positioned 45 deg to me at about 11000 yards. I narrowed it down to 8100 yards and at 30 deg AOB and sent 4 torps at low speed -2 contact and 2 contact influenece. 3 found their marks one miss. Goodbye Cruiser. That was in Feb. 1942. On Mar. '42 I found another TF- 1 Light Cruiser and 6 DDs! They were heading directly at me. Not the best position and at a distance of 10000 yards no time to reposition. So, I sent 4 torps into the Cruiser and all 4 hit. Trouble was the ship sank slowly stern first and stopped sinking with half of the ship in the air. No kill was credited to me. So I sent 4 more torps and 4 hits and no sinking!:nope: I used NSM4 and I would've thought it would at least break in two. Luckily I had saved before the contact and did it again. This time I got it but those DDs hunted me down for 4 hours! I got DC'ed to death almost. But I lived to sail another day. So, all torps expended and radioed in. Damn command knows I'm out of fish and they still give me another position to go to. Ah, hell with da Brass I'm going home. I got my crew to save.:yep: But what's with that unsinkable Cruiser anyway?
