Pesky Weather

Hi all

Has anyone else been sailing home, all torps expended after a great patrol when along comes a juicy lone merchant that is just right for a shelling. So you surface only to find that the weather wont allow you to man the guns. I just have to let the merchant sail away, I have considered ramming the damn thing but figured that I would come off worst.

If only I could give my gun crew some aqua-lungs then they would be ok to man the guns and woohoo another ship notched up.

I had this happen yesterday. Worse, the wind died less than an hour after I spotted the ship, but I hadn't bothered to plot its course on the map. :damn:

Before surfacing ask your NO for the weather report, if winds are 8 mts per sec. or stronger, forget about it:roll:

Hi Tomcat

Yea i realise that, but I was just wishing out loud that the weather was better and it always seems to be bad just when i want to shell something.

TomcatMVD 02-13-08 10:37 AM

Yeah I know... it happened to all of us at least 50 times

flakmonkey 02-13-08 10:47 AM

Bad luck, happens to me all the time, just remember to plot a course next time then at least you`ll have a chance to catch it again.

TomcatMVD:
You have to surface first to get a weather report since the report comes from the watch officer, who is not there when submerged.
Unless your nav officer is a complete genius he cant possibly know what the weathers doing when your under.

Are you playing vanilla SH-3 ?

On GWX2.0 your WO gives weather report and you have to be on the surface.

This has happened to me too many times to count......

Brag 02-13-08 12:03 PM

Once I had 3 days of good weather and tankers in "The Alley" were on parade! Lost count of how many of them the deck gun took care off. :D

Another time, outside Cadiz after resupplying, spent all the DG ammunition within 48 hours. :D

The rest of the time?

Ok so I thought I would run a little test.

Managed to find me a convoy off SW Ireland heading west. The weather was foul and I wondered how long it would take until it changed. Oh it is may btw.
Anyway I heard this voice in my head saying "go West my son" so I did and shadowed the said convoy for a bit to see if it changed. Well 5 days later!!!!!!
And still no bloody change! And it's May!

AAAAARRRRRGGGGHHHHHHHHH! :arrgh!: :arrgh!: :arrgh!:

Well one result is that I am not wondering about the weather any more! It is straight in with the torps and then run for home :arrgh!: as I am bored to tears shadowing this convoy!

Magic reports from underwater? You need to get GWX.

If you want to know what the weather is while submerged, use the periscope.

Blacklight 02-13-08 07:21 PM

Usually for me, the weather is crisp and perfect until I detect a ship, then "The Wrath of God" occurs and I can't even get a VISUAL on the ship until I'm about to crash into it. Strangely enough, when the ship dissapears out of range, the weather seems to clear up... only to repeat this cycle when I detect another ship.:damn:

In GWX 2.0 it's the NO who gives the reports, but the icon is assigned to WO. You can test it easily, just remove the NO and ask for weather. :) You can assign a shortkey to "report weather" command and then you don't need your WO to ask. A little bug, I think it origins from vanilla game.

PS. Guys, you should all use RealWeatherFixMod, it's impact on the everlasting storms is huge!

Why.. that's VOODOO MAGIC !! That kind of stuff isn't allowed on my boat. We raise our periscope to check the weather before surfacing !!!:stare:
