Best mileage in GWX2?
Owing to discussions in the SH4 forum, I started to wonder what is the most fuel efficient speed for SH3/GWX2?
I had always thought it was Ahead Slow, but now I am not sure. So, what is the best throttle setting? Does it depend on sea state? Thanks. |
Each sub has it's own best speed for fuel economy. I only know type 2 (6 knots). The others you need to search (it has been a reasonably popular subject lately) Or figure out yourself: ask your navigator for max range at certain speeds. High speeds drain fuel, but slow speeds too. There is a maximum efficiency somwhere. But weather (wind) does distort the measurement, so do this in no-waves conditions.

the best mileage can be archived with a hand-set speed.
usually between 7 and 9 knots, depending on the boat. (during heavy seas, probably the same setting would be the most economical altho' the actual speed at witch the boat would move would be reduced) |
This was discussed here several times in last two weeks, like here, for example:

With a VII C at 8 knots you can make it from France to New York and back, and probably do it twice without refueling !
