Missing Sounds

Sehr Geehrt Kameraden!

I have managed to install SH III with GWX II, but I am missing some of the sounds and sound effects.

There are no crew responses, no depth charge sound effects, no dive/surface sound effects, no explosions, etc., etc..

The sounds of the boat's engines are there along with weather sound effects, but not thunder.

Any suggestions?

Have you tested some other game, that all the sound works there?

Are you using SH3CMDR? If so, screwing around with the time compression settings can do this. Check the readme.

Which readme? I think i also have this problem.

You are correct. I had to reset all the time compression values. What is the point of having them if it stuffs up the game I wonder!

At one stage the game was continually pausing itself, damned annoying.

But, it seems all is well now, again, many thanks.

Many of us have been caught out 'initially' in the past by similar experiences

Frankly, it's users not understanding the TC settings that stuff up the game. I mean, to me it's quite obvious that setting "Character animations", "Sound effects" or "Particle rendering" TC events to 1 means that those events WILL CUT OUT AT 1x TC. Even the SH3Cmdr FAQ clearly states the effects of doing this.

Unfortunately I'm stuck between a rock and a hard place here. If I allow the settings to be changed to 1, even with CLEAR warnings (it's in two places btw), players complain. If I change it so as to block changing the settings to 1 altogether, guess what, players will complain ("why can't I change this to 1, what's the point of having it if I can't change it to what I want? I'm confused.").

And there's nothing stopping players from editing the TC settings directly in main.cfg with the same results. They don't even get a warning.

All I can say is, if you don't don't what you are changing, don't change! ;)

I still have some sounds missing. "Blowing tanks" won't play any sound at all cept for the order speach sound but crash dive will play normally. I also don't hear the periscope raising/lowering unless i'm in the periscope station. I don't remember this being so. Please help. I havent messed with time compression at all as of yet. But i d use SubCommander

I use this feature all the time, and I find it one of the best in CMDR. Change only one or two settings at a time and if you have a problem fix it for that particular setting. Example: I use 4000X when I have a grid in North America or South Africa. If I have one in, say, AF or AN, I don't use this time compression. I also set spotted aircraft to 1 later in the war. When I left it at the stock settings, I was always sunk before I could react.
ETC ETC ETC
CMDR ROCKS:rock::rock::rock:"Don't leave home without it"

Sounds and SH3 Cmdr

The only changes I wanted to make are to set the compression to "0" when ships or aircraft are spotted. The reason is that I can leave the game running and do something else, listening for the I WO, and not have to panic trying to get back to the PC, particularly if it's an aircraft. Even in real time, "1," by the time I got back to deal with an enemy aircraft it could be too late.

I must also confess to a great ignorance when it comes to how PC's and their programs work. Readme files tend to only complicate things.
