Take a look at http://freelook.org/manual.php It's a homemade trackir that uses a webcam to accomplish the same effect, but controls mouse movement instead of needing to be implemented with the game. Not quite as elegant as game implemented trackir, but could be worth looking at (especially since the software is free and the cost to build your headgear and buy a camera is pretty low).
