Does anyone know if Ubisoft is working on a Cold War Sub Sim ?
If not, I think this would make a great game. I wouldn't be surprised if they were.
Anyone heard any scuttlebut ?? Regards Jib01 |
Based solely on reading between the lines in the devs comments and the strategic features added in the addon. I'd take a guess that we are probably heading back to the Atlantic still in WW2 for either a high command Doenitz game where you can take command of any sub or alternatively a "Task Force 1942" or "Convoy commander" style surface sim.
A surface sim would make a lot of sense as some of the convoy/task force AI is there, partial strategic control was in the multiplayer SH4 and will probably take a quantum leap in single player in the forthcoming addon. Resource wise there are a huge number of models of surface ships already present from SH3 & SH4 and we already have the entire world modelled. some evidence... in a recent post from Tudor Serban of the Ubisoft devteam "we’ve heard the community’s request for wolf packs loud and clear and this is certainly something we might consider in the future." |
I think it'd be pretty cool if they made a Cold War sub sim...but WWII is a great time period for this type of game given the size of the navies many nations involved had.
Then again it seems like every game is about WWII these days...:) |
This type of sim is well covered by Sonalysts games. It would be mostly a duplication of effort. It could be hotly debated who would produce the best sim if they were to compete.

If Ubisoft would produce a surface sim, then they will go for the US Navy. With the USN you'd have a huge variety of missions: hunting Japanese/German subs, fighting IJN ships during the battle of Guadalcanal, protecting TFs from Kamikaze etc.
Other Navies they could consider would be the IJN or the Royal Navy, although the latter would be a tad boring because most of the missions would be to escort convoys or hunting U-Boats. |
For US fleet action probably Pacific would be best , an update of the classic TF1942 would be fantastic.

Got me.....:shifty:

Maybe they’ll link all the oceans together (hmm) and make some big surface, air and sub simulators covering the whole world. Then build on this platform continuing the series with huge online servers for multiplayer adversaries.
Open campaign is still the way to keep longevity in a simulation or to even call it a simulation. |
Two words.
Nuclear Torpedoes. :o |
Yeah I remember stories when the USN and Soviet subs/surface fleet would play cat and mouse in the Med. I think such brinksmanship would be pretty cool to try and emulate though I cannot imagine how that would translate into gameplay.
I remember on at least one occasion where a sub and surface ship collided during such antics. |

But again yes-- cold war would be more missles and tactical variety and it'd be great :|\\ |

"AviaForum: Is it possible to organize combined server for many players? OM: New engine allows to organize combined are for many players. If we get support from the publisher, we are ready to release MMO simulator based on BOB, where not only planes will be controlled by the players, but also tanks, cars, vessels, submarines, basically all elements of warfare that are present in the sim." |
I agree that a Cold War Subsim would be awsome.
Problem is unless its a "Hot" war instead, then it would be kind of boring, just chasing ships and subs around wouldnt be that interesting. But still, Cold War gone hot = |
