I take back what I said about TFs
Kaluens,
It is oct 24-1939. I have intercepted by sheer accident a TF that was steaming NW Grid AF7542. I was at max TC when I got the ship sighted auto TC slow down...of course it dropped me in the lap of the aforementioned TF. Anyways, on to the meat and potatoes of my post. I was always firm believer that TFs were lame and not worth any effort whatsoever due to the fact that most were: 5 DDs 5 DDs 1 Dido class All torpedo boats 5 DDs and a Bogue class Well I take it back... after almost being steamed over by a DD, how he missed me I have no idea, I popped the scope up for a peek. Hmm 5 DDs blechh.. wait a tick.. whats this .. The Hood ..wow... wait.. theres more.. trailing behind the big ship are 2 more big ships .. The Rodney and The Nelson.. Iconceivable. :o I just finished getting sunk in 44 and had just started a new career at 57% realism.. I knew I should have stayed in arcade mode. Oh well.. I have managed to put 3 eels in the Hood, her stern is under, the Rodney took one in the nose and her bow is burning, the Nelson took 2 amidships and seems unfazed. I am currently being molested by 5 DDs just circling and bombing. :x Im sure they will need more eels to sink but with the slow reload and rookie crew it was hard enough just hittin the bastiges. I so wish I could signal you guys to come help ..I hate to see them get away. :damn: Interesting side note The Rodney and Nelson have continued on The Hood has remained with the DDs and is circling as well, altho she is crtically wounded. |
there are a few of these major TFs out there... if you are lucky enough to find one in the early years... DIG IN!!! :rotfl:

I just found HMS Nelson leaving Narvik fyord today. First time I saw a British battleship, or task force of more than just destroyers for that matter. I managed to hit it with 3 torpedoes and sink it, something that pretty much suprised me, since I'm still perfecting my manual targeting and I barely managed to finish the solution before they passed me. I wasn't even sure if all the measurements were accurate. I was lucky though, weather was very favourable to me and I practicaly found myself on their path without even knowing they were out there. It sank after 20-30 minutes, but I didn't get to witness it, I had 6 destroyers after me and it took them a while to move on. I think I'll have to reactivate the all seeing outer view, I miss all the cool explosions without it. :damn:
http://home.amis.net/zerajima/razno/nelson.jpg Edit: Actually, I think I've incorrectly identified the ship. It must have been HMS Rodney, Nelson didn't serve in Norway, it was still beeing repaired at the time. I guess that's what happens in rough seas when you don't have time to double check everything |
