DSL Advertised Vrs. Actual Speed
Ok...I'm with the local telephone company's DSL package. It's not SBC or Ameritech...small town potatoes company Kingdom Telephone Service. They advertise 4mb download...I'm averaging 2.6 at best.
Is there a standard percentage that I should get as I'm not going above 70%? Makes me mad because I got the perception from tech support that I should be happy with what I've got. :x:x |

Find a local site that does speedtests. The farther away, the worse because that means it needs to take longer hops. Try here : http://www.dslreports.com/stest -S |

Ouch! Lease a new IP. The one you're on sucks! :D Sometimes the best way to do this is to leave your modem off all night, and your router off all night. By morning, they should lease a new IP to you - typically that is.
You can try a renew, but usually you will get the same one you had. -S |

I called him to ask a simple question of what is the typical speed when you have the max DSL package. It turned into an hour of him thinking...oh...here we go again...probably someone that thinks that since he builds his own computers that he knows everything about dsl. So...I emailed the marketing team and administration complaining about how I'm lucky to get 70% of my speed. After seeing the speed test ISP listed as someone off the wall...I emailed them too. According to their website, they have a direct fiber line going to the central office 5 miles away from me in Auxvasse...and I get 70% of my advertised speed????:down::down::damn::damn::damn: |
