SHIV dialing UBisoft

Is there a way to shut off SHIV from dialing home to Ubi everytime I start the game and again when I close it down? I'm using stock with 1.4.

Thanks,

BB

Zone Alarm

Just use Zone Alarm, Comodo, or any of a dozen firewalls that will stop outgoing treffic to the Internet.

I have a blocker but I get keep getting messages. Also, everytime I fire up the game it tries to do a game update. I don't remember it doing all this before 1.4.

Make a shortcut directly to the SH4.exe instead of the gu.exe.

Okay, a friend showed me that with 1.4 the desk top shortcut point to the gu.exe instead of the sh4.exe. Sheesh!

..and thanks Go4it. I appreciate it.

gu.exe

I thought I read somewhere around here about the gu.exe (with a nice reply from one of the Dev's) but after doing a search just now I couldn't find what I read. At the time (end of Nov) I didn't give it a second thought but now I'm wondering:

Does anyone know how the gu.exe works? I have some mods enabled for example and if the Autopatch updates something and later I disable a particular mod would I lose the auto-updated patch ... (if there are any) ??

Right now my shortcut points to sh4.exe rather than gu.exe. Is it recommended to disable the mods, manually run gu.exe periodically, and then re-enable the mods?

Anyone know about this?

Thanks, Art

As a rule of thumb, I would not update my version of SH4 to a new patch version, unless I had compatable mods pre-prepared. Most likely many mods would no longer function after a new patch. Reason being that MODS are generally made to run on a certain version of SH4.

Keep your shortcut pointed to SH4.exe and patch manually when you decide to update, if you use MODS in general.

Disable your NIC. It also will give you a extra 1-2fps.
