[REL] French Onion Soup Add on for SH3 and SH4 Commander
From:
"The Victory Binding of the American Women's Cook Book Wartime Edition" (1943) edited by Ruth Berolzheimer "This Wartime Edition of The American Women's Cook Book is Respectfully Dedicated with Affection and Gratitude to General Douglas MacArthur. His heroic leadership and gallant fight against overwhelming odds should inspire every American woman to make the most of daily opportunities to support the war effort in her home and in every sphere of worthwhile war activity. There must be thousands of little ways to do a job better - thousands of opportunities to help - to create, to conserve and to serve. If every woman, every day, in everything she does, will do her utmost to accomplish the aims of our Government, then that combined effort will soon become a gigantic and valuable aid toward winning the war." Onion Soup ban
COMSUBPAC and COMSUBATL have both banned the production of onion soup as the outcome of excessive malodorous gas is a real problem aboard our subs. Crew have been know to refuse to close hatches to dive due to the odors emanating from within the boat. Crewman on deck have spontaneously volunteered to serve double deck watch tours as they don't want to go down into the stink...
You have been warned.. |
Submarine Sauerbraten
Quote:
You think onion soup is bad? Once, on the Tusk, we were crossing the Gulf Stream west to east, heading for the Club Bermadoo (Bermuda.) The cooks must've had a mean streak. They cooked up a dinner of Sauerbraten. Let me tell you how THAT smelled! I didn't want to go below when my watch as lookout was over but had to anyway, my turn on the helm. With the boat pitching and rolling and the smell of Sauerbraten killing the smell of the diesel, lets just say that the head was very busy. I even had to turn the helm over to someone else in con and run up the ladder. I just barely made it out the hatch and barfed on the boat. I remember the skipper coming up a bit later and asking who barfed on the boat and I had to admit it was I. He made me clean it up too. A bit later, we dove and everyone was thankful, although there was quite a bit of left over Sauerbraten that night. I think I barfed again after we spent some time at the Club Bermadoo. Can't quite remember. My shipmates told me I kept driving my motor scooter on the "wrong" side of the road. It's hard to remember to drive left when you've been at the Club Bermadoo. I'll take onion soup over Submarine Sauerbraten any day! |
