[WIP] RSRDC Phase III
I have just completed the “last” campaign layer of RSRDC.
Currently working on the required mission objectives that will support Operation Forger (Invasion of Saipan & Guam) and Operation King II (Battle of Leyte Gulf). Also will have to rewrite all the “Single Missions” and “Single Patrol” files as the stock version no longer support the objective of RSRDC. These Mission/Patrol rewrites will be in the same form as “RSRDC Patrols”, that is “real world” mission against the tracks generated in the campaign layers. Will also have to adjust the late war patrol objectives that support the changes in Phase III During the development of the late war USN Task Forces it became obvious that attempting to generate task force with “real world” numbers would cause SH4 frame rate to decrease to unplayable levels. Therefore TF38/58 task groups have reduced to a “playable” size [i.e. approximately 1/3 their real size]. Plans to add Task Force 57 (British Pacific Fleet) have been scraped for the current time. The following IJN units have been added Mastu Class DE (reworked Asashio class DD) Katori Class Light Cruiser (reworked Kuma Class CL) Unryu Class CV (reworked Hiryu CV) [Special note this is “not” the Unryu released by miner1436] The Mastu & Katori were escorts of various convoys during 1944/1945 The Unryu is required to support a mission / campaign layer in late 1944 The following units will be removed RN TBF Avenger RN Martlet (F4F) During my research on the Battle of Leyte Gulf, I found these two Sub OpArea maps. If you look at the first map you will note there appears to be a “real” area 7 off the “Bungo Straits” http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v5...ubopareas2.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v5...subopareas.jpg Release estimate is the end of February, however this is subject to change. |
Nice work as always Lurker...
|
Thank you for the great work.
Last night i had my first patrol with phase II. Stumbeld onto a large taskforce in the bismarck sea and was able to sink a Yamato and Taiho. Regards Dieter |
This is great news Lurker. Thanks for your efforts:up:

Ned Beach always said that Bungo Pete was real. I don't see any reason why we should not assume that most of the background information to the story would not be real as well. That being said, that map is a real find. Thanks for sharing, and thanks for all your hard work on this. This addon improves the sim immeasurably.
Respectfully Submitted; CDR Resser |

:D thanks lurker great work

As CDR Resser, those maps are great! Looks like "Maru Morgue", "Hit Parade" and "Convoy College" just might be some productive places to hang out. I think I'll print them out for reference.
Really enjoying RSRDC, thanks for all your work! |
Here is some additional data on Phase III
Mission objectives that will support Operation Forger (Invasion of Saipan & Guam) and Operation King II (Battle of Leyte Gulf) are now complete Rewrite all the “Single Missions” and “Single Patrol” files are now complete. RSRDC Patrols V100 has been integrated into Phase III Two more IJN units have been added: Shinano Class CV and the ASW version of the Katori Class CL. IRT to the ASW version of the Katori Class CL it is based on the following from the TROMs for both the KASHIMA & KASHII at combinedfleet.com 30 March 1944: KASHII's torpedo tubes are removed and replaced by two Type 89 127-mm. HA guns twin mounts. Four triple mount Type 96 25-mm AA guns are also installed bringing their total to 20 barrels (4x3, 4x2). A Type 21 air-search radar is fitted. KASHII's aft compartments are modified into concrete-protected magazines for up to 300 depth charges. Four DC throwers and two DC rails are installed on the quarterdeck. Hydrophones and sonar are also installed. And 20 December 1944: Kure Navy Yard. Begins modifications. KASHIMA's torpedo tubes are replaced by two unshielded twin 40-cal Type 89 127-mm HA-gun mounts. Four triple mount Type 96 25-mm. AA guns and ten single mount guns are also fitted. A Type 22 surface-search radar is fitted. Two Type 2 infra-red communication devices are installed. KASHIMA's aft compartments are modified into concrete-protected magazines for up to 100 depth charges. Four DC throwers, and two DC rails are installed on the quarterdeck. Hydrophones and sonar are also installed. |

She did have a short lifespan measured in hours, but still Shinano is a legendary ship for us subsimmers. Erm....can't wait for KASHII and KASHIMA either. 300 DCs. :o :-? That's gonna leave a bruise for sure! :ping: |
Great stuff Lurker, managed two patrols so far... plenty to sink out there if, when you find it, you don't let it go :gulp: !!!
Looking forward to your release... don't forget, take all the time you need ;) |
I had a member PM me today about Shinano and it's absense. What model did you use for Shinano? Darn large vessel.

well looking forward to check it out. I hope it will show more traffic then the current version. Especialy japanese shore defence should be much stronger. A submarine should not be able to reach tokio all the way surfaced.
and one more thing. Is it possible to make a new task at convoi sight? real subs were often ordered to follow the convoi and scout it for a while until subpac was able to concentrate forces on its way. Just an idea... |

I currently have no plans to make changes in these areas |

so youre saying going surfaced to tokio without ever seeing an enemy is realistic? |
