Resolution problem

Hello, they are new of this forum and I pick the occasion for greeting all and make compliments for all which fairies! I have a small problem of resolution, I play to SH3 with resolution 1280 x 1024 (hight res fix) but with my monitor LCD NEC 1970NXp, sure details as an example the periscope me turns out ovals, I have tried all the possible resolutions but the always equal result! exists one solution for this small problem? thanks and excused for mine English...

This seems to be a known problem. If you change resolution from 1024x768 to 1280x1024 you are leaving 4:3 ratio. (1280x1024 is 5:4).

Therefore circles are not circles anymore and worse -- angles you measure on the map are not correct!

The only solution I know is to run the game in default resolution or any other 4:3 (I don't know if 1600x1200 is possible; 1400x1050 wouldn't work for me at least).

Thanks! I have tried to put the default resolution but the problem always remains

Hm. Now this is strange. In the default resolution there should be no such problem. Would it be possible to provide a screenshot?

The real problem is that no matter what the resolution, the image is scaled to fill the monitor with your current settings. For example the stock resolution 1024x768 gets scaled to 1280x1024(that's your monitors native resolution, right?), which of course results in distortions and an unsharp image. When using the res fix to set the resolution to 1280x1024 you get rid of the unsharpness, but still have to deal with the distorted image.

There are two solutions(that I know of):
  1. Run SH3 in windowed mode. The game will be run in a 1024x768 sized window, and thus won't be filling the full area of your monitor. The image will be sharp and not distorted.
    OR
  2. Enable "Preserve aspect ratio"(or something similar) from your GFX drivers' settings, and use the res fix to set the SH3 resolution to 1280x960. You'll get black stripes at the top and bottom, but the image will be sharp and not distorted.

1280x960 is the closest 4:3 res (i think its a valid windows resolution).

Oh, I haven't thought of that. It should help then to just set your windows resolution to 1024x768 before starting the game, no?

Does no good since the physical resolution of his screen seems to be 1280x1024. The image would just be stretched to cover that area.
