This museum is 25 minutes from my home. Unfortunate they tanks are outside but all in all these are in good shape.

Been there. An Army buddy of mine lives in Northeast and we took a trip over there last time I went to visit.

I could have spent days there.

The Sturmtiger was armed with a short-barreled 38cm Raketenwerfer 61 L/5.4, breech-loading rocket launcher/mortar.

Such a short barrell, just how far would the ammo go?

The coolest tank in the world to me is:

I believe many country's could not believe there eyes when Germany bought out the leopard.

AVGWarhawk 01-22-08 04:12 PM

Oh, she is a beauty. Similar with the M1A and the US did use the cannon technology. Both cannons are the same. But comparing the two, hands down the Leopard is just a cool looking nasty tank.

antikristuseke 01-22-08 04:26 PM

The cannons of those tanks used to be very similar, but not exactly identical, but the latest Lepopard 2A6 mount a 120mm L55 cannon instead of an L44 that was found on older models. (L55 means the length of the gun in calibers, in this case 55 times 120mm)

The RW 61 launcher fired short-range (4,600 to 6,000 meters, or 2,850 to 3,720 yards) high-explosive rocket-propelled projectiles.

OT of Leopard.........Each year on Salisbury Plain (not sure if it still occurs) There are or were gunnery competitions for tanks from most of the NATO countries. These competitions were designed for tank crews to prove their ability in a variety of disciplines ie: moving, stationary, uphill obstacle/downhill obstacle, moving targets, stationary targets, and all at a variety of different ranges etc. etc.
The Leopard, since it's inception, has won the competition more than any other make of tank.

She is a marvel to watch. I happened to catch a History Channel program on the Leopard.
