Topedo Firing Times
As i know on SH4 it is not possible to fire all torpedos at the same time which seems a bit silly as in Real life i understand that subs could indeed fire at least 2 tubes at at time at the same time but in SH4 this isnt possible
anybody got a fix for this or know a mod which allows this |
Set up your fish,speed/depth/open doors/ready.
Select tube/Fire,right close together.Best in game:sunny:

The lack of a Salvo option in SH4 is actually accurate, US boats didn't have this feature unlike Germany's U-boats. In real life, and ingame too for that matter, it was wiser to space out your shots by a couple seconds, to avoid any problems with prematures.
As for a mod that changes this I don't believe there is any, sorry. |
Rodan54 is right.
On US subs it wasn't possible to fire torpedoes at the same time. It was not prematures that is the reason. It is actually two fold. First the torpedoes would interfere with each other. This could change their course either horizontally or vertically. Both are not good... Second is that, although the WRT tank takes care of the weightloss when a torpedo is fired it is very tricky to do that simultaneously. The result would be that the sub would broach the surface with all hazards involved... On german subs... I'm not sure if they could do this. And if they could that they ever did it. The interference is one reason. But the germans also did not have the WRT tanks to compensate for the weightloss. They had to take on water in a tank immediately when firing, or pump water forward (or aft for aft torpedo shots) to compensate. groetjes, |
maybe i'm wrong then but i still think it would be a nice feature for the game

If two torps left the tubes going on the same course at the same time it would cause all sorts of problems for the game like them merging or bouncing off each other. Probably best to leave it as it is.

Normally torpedoes were fired 5-10 seconds apart to prevent interference. German u-boats did have a selector switch that would set up a salvo. What is not clear is whether this automatically fired the selected tubes in sequence, or just told the torpedomen which tubes were to be fired. Either way, it is probable that even in u-boats the tubes fired several seconds apart, and for the same reason; not all at the same time, as is done in SH3.
