Is the nav map messed up?

My map showed a merchant 200 yards away, but nothing was picked up visually or on sonar. Other times I get contacts 5000 yards away and go to find them only to soon get another notice that contact is lost. Any ideas? I have the 1.4 patch.

TIA!

Your sonar ( or radar if installed yet ) never picked those ships up. They were reported by other craft ( probably a plane ) at a certain time, heading and speed when spotted. Left click on the ships icon ( or Convoy/Task force ) and a circle with the info will be shown. Calculate the distance from you ( and the time of day ) to see if it is worth your going after said ship/ships. There speed usually is: Slow= 6 Kts, Medium= 9 Kts and Fast= 12 Kts.

You are probably looking at an intel contact icon. Click on it and you'll get a description and time/date. If the contact is old, the ship(s) it represented have moved on and you'll have to search for it. If it's REAL old, I doubt you'll ever find it.
