d3d9 res fix and widescreen for this dummy

With a new widescreen monitor, I've read all the threads I can find about the res fix, but I'm still not clear on whether or not there's any solution to the aspect ... uuhhh ... aspect.

I ran the res fix and it's fine and I'm running sh3 in 1280x960 and there's definitely an improvement, but I've still got some widescreen stretch. From reading the threads, my (dim) understanding is that there's no fix for the stretch unless you run the game in windowed mode. Do I have that right?

@seadragon. Tks for that. I'd seen that thread, but I guess I missed the bit that spoke about running in 1280x1024 as being sh3's native resolution ... I'll give that a try.

I've tried 1280x1024, but still have the stretch. According to some info piece of paper that came with the monitor, 1280x1024 is a 4:3 aspect ratio as opposed to a widescreen ratio, but still I have stretch. Keeping in mind I know bugger all about resolution and graphic settings stuff generally, and thus wonder if something will blow up if I adjust, I'd sure appreciate some advice on this widescreen stretch thing. It may be unsolvable, if so I'll live with it, but on the other hand ...

I guess the manufacturer put a lot of effort in to that piece of paper. It's SOOO hard to check if that's a 4:3 aspect ratio resolution:

1280/1024 = 4 1/4 = 5/4

 I never said I wasn't math challenged. I just have an excessive amount of confidence in what's written on pieces of paper.
