How do I handle minefields?

I am near one comming back from a jap photo recon mission. I have saved and I die a lot comming out. What do I do? Travel surfaced at night? Go really deep? What?

Don't go there in the first place? If you know it's there, why go through it?

Surfaced at night is your option. I'm assuming depth wouldn't be an option if your returning from photo recon as the water will be shallow. Just make sure you steer clear of any DE's around.

Talk to the chaplain, and have him pray continuously.

Surfaced, at night, with lots of prayers and a ton of luck.

Chaplain? Ha! Religion is the whole reason man fight these wars in the first place. Seriously though, thanks for the input. I didn't look at the map and then I just DIED. Then I found out I was in a minefield. How deep do mines go?

The funny thing is I didn't know it was mined on the way in, I got lucky. Now I have some film to develope and I am having trouble getting out.

Are you using Trigger Maru?
That has modified the mine fields. They are modified in version 1.7.5, but may have had some changes in earlier versions.
If I recall a thread comment, stock mines were not too deep. If you have more than 160ft under you too work with, just go deep.

BTW, I've not had any contact with mines. Are they visible objects in game?

Yeah they are i remember seeing some screen shots a while back. Don't think they are high quality models tho.

TM also added "sub nets" around some islands to mimic a reef. If you see a long row of spheres floating low in the water, you better reverse engines to all back emergency, unless you want to get beached.

Subnets as reefs, that's all tater's doing.

Mines.. yeah i retouched them. Your chances of hitting them are alot higher.

In many minefields, i made them so they're about 20-22 meters shallow on down. Since a gato's periscope depth is about 18 meters, you couuld theortically traverse the minefield at periscope depth and not hit any........ however, at that shallow depth, you risk air attack. (i made various minefieldds this depth with this specific "mechanic" in mind)

Surface at night is best bet.
